 BENNINGTON, Vt. — Type 2 diabetes is a serious disease that causes painful and debilitating complications like nerve damage, kidney disease, heart failure, and eye problems, to name a few. Learning more about diabetes and how to make important changes can help prevent these serious problems. The Diabetes Education department at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center and the Vermont Blueprint for Health have teamed up to provide a Diabetes Self-Management Workshop starting at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2022, virtually via Zoom. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Physical copies of this free community resource guide are now available in Spanish. This past July, the 2022 Edition of the Northern Berkshire Community Resource Guide (CRG) went to print and over 17,000 copies landed in mailboxes throughout north Berkshire County. Since then the Coalition has distributed an additional 775 guides to local residents and organizations. The guide offers contact information of local resources covering everything from food access and meal sites, education services, financial and family support, immigrant services, mental health and counseling services, in addition to dozens of others. CHESHIRE, Mass. — Superintendent Aaron Dean informed the Hoosac Valley Regional School Committee during a meeting Tuesday night that Hoosac Valley Elementary School in Adams is in need of maintenance. The school's brickwork, gutters, sidewalks, and water diversion were assessed to determine what maintenance needed to be done. "And a lot of the issues that we're dealing with in that building has to do with water, and diversion of water or something to do with drainage," Dean said. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The City Council balked at putting the maximum tax burden on businesses at Wednesday's tax classification hearing. Mayor Jennifer Macksey had recommended a 1.75 shift differential to the commercial side as a way to relieve pressure on homeowners.
