 NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — There is some potential for new faces on the City Council and School Committee this year, though it's too early in the election season to make any predictions. So far, four of the nine incumbent city councilors have taken out papers for re-election: Keith Bona, Peter Oleskiewicz, Bryan Sapienza and Ashley Shade. They've been joined by five challengers: Colin Bain, Robert Cardimino, Emily Johnson, Deanna Morrow and Ronald Sheldon.  NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The School Building Committee had a bit of sticker shock on Tuesday when the range for a renovation or new school construction topped out at $90 million. The estimates covered the scenarios from building new at Brayton or Greylock or renovating either, with the higher ends for a prekindergarten through Grade 6 school. The lowest range was for renovating Brayton — about $55 million to $75 million — and highest a new building Greylock from about $75 million to $90 million. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The City Council was found to be in violation of Open Meeting Law regarding an email sent by Councilor Keith Bona last fall. Councilor Marie T. Harpin filed the complaint after Bona relayed a message from David Carver, a real estate developer, about the tax shift the council was debating to all its members and to the media. Existing artwork will be printed on banners which will fill each available street-level window. As a social worker and professional who attempts to provide greater access to quality mental health care and equitable resource facilitation to underserved families, I have serious concerns about the development of a homeless shelter at [Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts], directly impacting North Adams. I have had reservations about asserting my opinion and how it may appear to others, as this is a difficult position to take in my profession. Regardless, we need to call for some critical community conversations with MCLA prior to the action(s) they propose to fill a vacant building.
