North Adams Council Starts Clerk Search, Raises Retiree COLABy Tammy Daniels, iBerkshires Staff

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The City Council on Tuesday accepted the resignation of City Clerk Joshua Vallieres, the third clerk to leave the post in barely a year. Council President Lisa Blackmer said the job has been posted and that six resumes have already been received. "The position is posted as review of applications will begin on, I think, the 19th of April so if qualified applicants come in after that they're not cut off, and it'll give us an opportunity to get a handle on hopefully finding someone with similar work experience," she said.  SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Following energy efficiency upgrades at 21 Big Y grocery stores across Connecticut and Massachusetts, the chain is now reaping the benefits and savings. Big Y partnered with Eversource's energy efficiency experts to take advantage of incentive programs to make several upgrades in multiple stores. The grocery store chain is now saving some 9.3 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, the equivalent of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by removing 840 gasoline powered vehicles from area roads for a year. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The City Council will reconsider the appointment of a Housing Authority member it rejected two weeks ago. A special meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18, to specifically address the reappointment of Colin Todd and the appointment of any other candidate the mayor brings forward. The council on March 28 voted against Todd's reappointment after a number of individuals, some of whom were not Housing Authority residents, objected. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — A Vermont man accused in the death of his 3-year-old son following a weekend accident in Clarksburg pleaded not guilty on Monday morning to numerous charges. Darrel Galorenzo, 35, of Readsboro was arraigned in Northern Berkshire District Court on charges of manslaughter, reckless endangerment of a child, negligent operation of a motor vehicle (operating to endanger) and operating under the influence. The defense requested $5,000 bail but Judge Janine Simonian set bail at District Attorney Timothy Shugrue's request of $250,000 cash.
