05:02AM / Friday, December 23, 2022
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Brien Center has been helping Berkshire County residents for more than a century.   These days, the mental health center wants those residents to respond to a "help wanted" sign.   "I would say, probably No. 1 goes back to being short staffed," the Brien Center's Rebecca Phelps-Smith said Monday when asked what the non-profit needs from the community. "I would ask for help in spreading the word that we aren't just hiring clinical staff. We have a lot of peer positions open. We have multiple positions open needing bachelor's degrees and master's degrees but we also have [jobs requiring] high school diplomas

Christmas this year is expect to be white — as well as icy.   The National Weather Service in Albany, N.Y., has issued a winter weather advisory until 5 a.m. Friday, particularly for Pittsfield and North County, Southern Vermont and eastern New York.    Snow will start falling this afternoon and early evening before turning to rain overnight. Isolated pockets of freezing rain are possible.    The snow, sleet and windy conditions are expected create slippery roads and reduced visibility across the county. Strong winds beginning this evening could cause tree damage overnight.    A flood watch is also in effect and minor

Jonathan Secor had some help in pulling the winning ticket. Congrats to Janet O'Neill of North Adams who won the big Hometown Holidays gift basket on Thursday. O'Neill won some $1,300 worth of gift certificates and merchandise.

The drawing could be entered by spending $50 downtown during the Thursday night Hometown Holiday events. Jonathan Secor of MCLA Gallery 51 said 62 people had entered the contest (including the editor of iBerkshires &mdash amazing how much cat toys cost nowadays).

Secor contacted O'Neill who  was excited and surprised at winning. "No, I'm not kidding," Secor assured her
