BRPC Seeks Input On Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Regional Planning Commission (BRPC) is seeking public comment on a draft Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) for Berkshire County, which will be in effect from 2023 through 2027.   The CEDS is a coordinated regional planning process that documents current economic conditions, identifies priority economic development projects, and sets goals and strategies for the upcoming 5-year period. Two previous CEDS have been published for Berkshire County, in 2011 and 2017. The 2023 edition will include an expanded Resiliency Planning chapter, as well as an overview of COVID-19 impacts on unemployment rates and labor force statistics.   The

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — MCLA president James Birge said students are mostly doing well to start the new school year, after two-and-a-half years of remote or hybrid instruction.   "I think all of us know that the pandemic hasn't disappeared. Berkshire Libraries Fall Crawl

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — One dozen Berkshire county libraries are hosting The Berkshire Libraries Fall Crawl from October 17 to October 22, 2022.   All are welcome to explore the Berkshires by visiting public libraries across the county. Participants can pick up a passport at the first library they visit and then drive from library to library, collecting passport stamps and small prizes.   Participants are asked to take a photo of themselves at each library along the way and use the tag #BerkshireLibraryCrawl2022. MCLA Volleyball Sweeps Castleton State

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The MCLA volleyball team earned a 3-0 sweep over Castleton State in nonconference action Thursday at the Amsler Campus Center, 25-16, 25-20, 25-20.   With the victory the Trailblazers improve to 12-6 on the season while the Spartans fall to 4-15.   The first set was tightly contested with neither team able to create any separation until a Shannon O'Brien service ace gave MCLA (12-6) a 16-12 advantage forcing a Castleton timeout. The Spartans (4-15) responded by taking the next two points, but from there it was all Trailblazers. MCLA went on a 9-2 run to close out the set winning it 25-16.   The Trailblazers kept the momentum to begin the second set,

Clarksburg Pavilion Getting New Roof

CLARKSBURG, Mass. — The town has found a way to complete repairs on the pavilion at the town field by utilizing McCann Technical School.    The option for using McCann students had been raised at a prior meeting after bids to replace the roof on the structure came in over cost.    "We've gone to bid three or four times and each time we go out to bid they give us a bid for a product we didn't ask for," said Town Administrator Carl McKinney in updating the Select Board on Wednesday. Thursday's warm temperatures are about to be doused by heavy rain on Thursday evening.    Berkshire residents awoke to temperatures in the 60s (we're not completely sure since we are missing our MountainOne clock) as the past few days have seen warmer air in the region.
