PITTSFIELD, Mass. — In recognition of this progress and after careful review of all relevant public health data and information, Berkshire Health Systems (BHS) is relaxing many of its COVID-19 infection control guidelines effective Thursday, May 11, 2023, when both the state and federal COVID-19 Public Health Emergency declarations will expire. Break in North Adams Main Sends Sewage Into Hoosic River Staff Reports,

 NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — A broken sewer main on North Eagle Street sent a cascade of sewage into the Hoosic River on Monday. City workers had fixed the broken pipe shortly after noontime Tuesday. Commissioner of Public Services Timothy Lescarbeau said the 6-inch main had collapsed in front of 280 Eagle St. "The break was opened up and flow diverted back into the sanitary sewer system," he wrote early Tuesday morning. The line picks up all the houses along the street and Clarksburg. It's estimated more than 10,000 gallons of sewage went into the storm drains and out into the river at Eagle and River street. 0 Comments

In a message to the campus community on Tuesday, President James Birge said that "after extensive consideration," he was halting discussions about the use of the Berkshire Towers dormitories on Church Street as a temporary shelter. "Upon reflection, the length of the long-term lease and the ongoing operational questions and concerns led me to make the decision that MCLA will not move forward in partnership with the Department of Housing and Community Development," he wrote.  NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Nite Owl automotive repair was found to be in compliance with its permit. "I would say that he is compliant at this time," said Building Inspector William Meranti at Monday's Planning Board meeting. "My check has been with the limit set for up to 12 [vehicles] allowed on the lot. "The front of the building has been cleaned up, the work around the window has been finished. Pleased to say that I would call it compliance." City Woman Wins Hometown Holidays Gift Basket |
Jonathan Secor had some help in pulling the winning ticket.
Congrats to Janet O'Neill of North Adams who won the big Hometown Holidays gift basket on Thursday. O'Neill won some $1,300 worth of gift certificates and merchandise.
The drawing could be entered by spending $50 downtown during the Thursday night Hometown Holiday events. Jonathan Secor of MCLA Gallery 51 said 62 people had entered the contest (including the editor of iBerkshires &mdash amazing how much cat toys cost nowadays).
