North Adams Man Charged for Attempted Sex With Child

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — A city man has been arrested by the FBI on charges related to enticing a minor.   James Macko, 23, was arrested Friday and charged with attempted coercion and enticement of a minor and attempting to transfer obscene material to a minor.    According to the U.S. Attorney's Office of Northern District of New York, the criminal complaint alleges that between Nov. 16, 2022, and Dec. 9, 2022, Macko texted another person in Albany, N.Y.    In these messages, Macko expressed interest in engaging in sexual conduct with an 11-year-old child. Berkshire County Fire Departments Awarded Grants

STOW—The Baker-Polito Administration announced $5 million in grant awards to 308 fire departments from the FY23 Firefighter Safety Equipment Grant Program.   In Berkshire County Adams, Dalton, Great Barrington, Lanesborough, Lee, Lenox, New Ashford, New Marlborough, North Adams, Peru, Pittsfield, Richmond, Sheffield, Stockbridge, and Williamstown all received grants.   "We ask so much of our firefighters, and no matter how dangerous or difficult the situation, they always do whatever it takes to help," said Governor Charlie Baker. ADAMS, Mass. — Gene Gavazzi served his country in the Marine Corps and Marine Reserves from 1983 to 1989.    Born in Adams, he graduated from Hoosac Valley High School then went the college route for a couple of years. When riding home one day, he saw a Marine recruiting billboard – "Maybe, You Can Be One Of Us."    It struck a chord with the 22-year-old and he was hooked.    "I'll never forget when Staff Sgt. McCann Senior Christopher Sunn Wins Superintendents Award

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — McCann Technical School student Christopher Sunn has received a certificate of academic excellence from the Mass Association of School Superintendents. 

Sunn, a senior in the school's Computer Aided Design program, is a straight-A student with a 4.4 GPA. When he graduates, Sunn plans to attend UMass Amherst, where he will study engineering. 

Superintendent James Brosnan presented Sunn and his family with the award at the school committee meeting on Thursday.

BOSTON -- The MCLA women's basketball team Saturday concluded its first semester schedule with a 52-32 loss to Wentworth Institute of Technology.   Wentworth (3-5) jumped out to an early 11-2 lead just four minutes into the game, but the MCLA defense would buckle down and hold the Leopards scoreless for nearly the next nine minutes of play. Unfortunately for the Trailblazers (3-8), points proved tough to come by and Wentworth would outscore the visitors 17-5 in the second quarter and take a 28-13 lead into halftime.   Maddy Foster led Wentworth with 22 points and 11 rebounds. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Drury High School senior Evan-Quin May-Sims Goodermote is this year's recipient of the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents Certificate of Academic Excellence.    The award is presented annually by the superintendent to the highest-ranking Drury senior who has distinguished themselves in the pursuit of academic excellence.    "Evan-Quinn has taken a challenging course load during their time at Drury High School, including Advanced Placement courses and dual enrollment courses in conjunction with Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts," said Superintendent Barbara Malkas at Tuesday's School Committee meeting.
