Late-Night Crash Takes Out Main Street Tree in North Adams| 04:25PM / Friday, July 19, 2024 | |
The truck has front-end damage; the tree is gone. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — An errant pickup truck took out one of the trees on Main Street on Thursday night. Police Lt. Anthony Beverly said dispatch was notified about 10 minutes to midnight that a vehicle was in the median. The incident is still under investigation but the driver is expected to be summonsed on criminal charges. The driver was apparently headed west on Main Street when they veered into the median in front of the Berkshire Plaza. The driver was the only occupant and was taken to the hospital.  State Secures $1.72B Toward Cape Cod Bridges Project The Healey-Driscoll administration is celebrating that the Massachusetts Department of Transportation and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers winning nearly $1 billion in federal funding for the replacement of the Cape Cod bridges. The funding is from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s Bridge Investment Program. A new pole is in place for a transformer on Main Road in Stamford. STAMFORD, Vt. — Nearly 18 hours after severe thunderstorms pummeled the region, hundreds of customers are without power. The latest update estimates is that power will be back on at 2 p.m. in North Berkshire. Green Mountain Power's outage map could not provide an estimate on power restoration. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — A severe thunderstorm hammered parts of North and Central County on Tuesday night, downing trees and limbs and leaving more than 8,000 customers without power. The Berkshires, Eastern New York and parts of Southern Vermont were under a severe thunderstorm watch until 9 p.m. on Tuesday. The storm came through shortly after 6 p.m. with thunder and lightning and torrential rain. Alerts and calls began streaming into dispatch and fire and police departments began calling in extra help.
