North Adams SteepleCats Finish Year with Road Loss

DANBURY, Conn. -- Dante D'Amore went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles Tuesday to lead the Danbury Westerners to a 9-5 win over the North Adams SteepleCats in the Cats' season finale.   Aedan Anderson went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and a pair RBIs for North Adams, which also got a double from Elijah Lambros.   North Adams finishes the season with a record of 13-31.

Police Investigating Fatal Train Accident That Killed North Adams Man

The District Attorney's Office confirmed on Wednesday that the victim of Tuesday's fatal train accident was Douglas Hawley, 41, of North Adams. Hawley's family posted a GoFundMe on Facebook late Tuesday to raise money for funeral expenses and his two children.    According to the post, Hawley "passed away unexpectedly in a freak accident" and that "everyone knows he was hit by a train crossing the tracks because he had a hearing problem never heard the train coming."   Family members had been at the scene of the accident and indicated their brother had died but did not give any further information.    Hawley

SteepleCats Blanked in Final Home Game

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Mike Jensen and Jack Niedringhaus Monday combined on a one-hitter to lead the Valley Blue Sox to a 10-0 win over the North Adams SteepleCats in the Cats' home finale.   Aedan Forde had the lone hit for North Adams.   Nick Balcom took the loss on the mound despite allowing no earned runs in five innings of work.   He left with a 2-0 deficit after five innings after giving up two of the five unearned runs generated by the Blue Sox.   North Adams (13-30) finishes the season at Danbury, Conn., on Tuesday.

MassDOT Advisory: Motor Vehicle Inspections Available

Moresi Companies Settle Discrimination Allegations

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — A local developer and property management company has agreed to pay $40,000 to settle fair housing complaints on its properties.    Moresi Commercial Investments LLC and Moresi & Associates Property Management LLC, owned by David Moresi, were alleged to have discriminated against families with children in renting out apartments at 262-268 Ashland St. and 16 and 20 Blackinton St.   The allegations are that the apartments were being advertised as "student housing" and that inquiries from "testers" stating they had children were referred to other apartment listings.
