Keene Comes Back to Beat SteepleCats

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The Keene, N.H., Swamp Bats Thursday overcame an early 5-0 deficit to earn a 10-9 win over the North Adams SteepleCats at Joe Wolfe Field.   Warren Holzemer went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs for North Adams.   Elijah Lambros also homered in the loss.   North Adams (7-10) goes to Danbury, Conn., on Saturday.

Greylock Thunder Falls to Columbia County, N.Y.

ADAMS, Mass. – Lydia Gaudreau went 1-for-2 and scored a run Thursday for the Greylock Thunder 14-and-under travel softball squad in an 8-1 loss to the Columbia County Reds.   Alana Olmedo doubled for the Thunder, which also got a hit from Kenadi Arnhold.   Avery Lane and Marlee Arnhold split time in the circle for Greylock, combining to strike out seven.   The Thunder (0-5) goes to Schenectady, N.Y., on Saturday for a weekend tournament.

No Paws Left Behind to Operate at North Adams Animal Shelter

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The nonprofit No Paws Left Behind animal shelter will operate out of the city's municipal shelter on Hodges Cross Road.    Police Officer Matthew Reynolds, the city's animal control officer, will still be using the shelter for strays, and shelter staff will assist with care for animals while in holding. Animal control was shifted to an officer in next year's police budget after the resignation of Animal Control Officer Carrie Loholdt.   No Paws Left Behind is dedicated to rescuing and rehoming dogs and cats from the area.   "We are excited to open our doors and welcome the community to join us in our mission to provide hope and

SANFORD, Maine -- Elijah Lambros went 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs and a double Wednesday to lead the North Adams SteepleCats to a 9-5 win over the Sanford Mainers.   Taconic High graduate Nick Guachione doubled and David McCann hit a game-winning grand slam in the top of the ninth for the SteepleCats.   Joseph Sabbath earned the win on the mound with two innings of one-run relief.   North Adams (7-9) is home on Thursday against Keene, N.H.

MSBA Board Shifts Greylock School Project into Funding Phase

 NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The $65 million Greylock Elementary School project has moved another step forward with the Massachusetts School Building Authority's vote to enter into a funding agreement.   The MSBA Board of Directors, meeting remotely on Wednesday morning, unanimously authorized the executive director to enter into budget and funding agreements for facilities grants totaling $177,280,778 for North Adams, Agawam and Berkley.   The estimated cost for a new Greylock School is $65,362,859 with a maximum grant estimated at $41,557,218. This final figure was voted by the School Building Committee last week.    This agreement is dependent on the local

Planned Electrical Interruptions Set in North Adams

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Nathan Voss hit a third-inning grand slam on Monday to lead the North Adams SteepleCats to a 6-3 win over the Upper Valley Nighthawks at Joe Wolfe Field.   Jake Kulikowski went 3-for-4 with a triple, and Luke Mistone went 2-for-3 for North Adams.   J.D. Garceau Earns All-America Honors at UMass Boston

Wahconah Regional High School graduate and UMass Boston sophomore Aryianna Garceau earned all-America honors in the 100-meter hurdles at May's NCAA Division III Championships.   Garceau took sixth in the finals with a time of 14.05 seconds after qualifying for the finals with a time of 13.97, which broke a 35-year school record.   In earning all-America honors, Garceau became the 20th Beacon to achieve that honor and the first since 2018.   Earlier in May, Garceau was named to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Association's all-Region team.
