Each winter, MassWildlife receives inquiries from the public regarding whether or not to feed wildlife. While people have good intentions, supplemental feeding of wildlife typically does more harm than good. Most wildlife seasonally change their behavior to adapt to cold temperatures and scarce food supplies. Supplemental feeding can alter that behavior and have detrimental, and sometimes fatal, effects. Wildlife in Massachusetts have adapted over thousands of years to cope with harsh winter weather, including deep snow, cold temperatures, and high winds.  BOSTON — Relief is coming to communities hit by flooding last summer, including more than $1 million for North Adams. Ten communities will get a total of $2,785,000 out of the first $10 million of disaster relief funding that had been part of the supplemental budget passed by the Legislature and signed by Gov. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Berkshires will be in the Chill Zone on Saturday night as temperatures are expected to dip as low as 15 degrees below zero. The National Weather Service in Albany, N.Y., has issued a wind chill advisory beginning at 10 p.m. Saturday through 10 a.m. Sunday. The areas affected include all of Berkshire County, parts of the eastern New York Catskills in western Greene and Ulster counties.
