NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The City Council is giving boards and commissions more time to file meeting minutes. Councilors spent some time Monday debating whether to amend an ordinance passed five years ago that required boards to provide meeting minutes within two weeks before passing it to a second reading 7-2 with Councilors Marie T. Harpin and Jennifer Barbeau voting against. The General Government Committee on Monday had recommended returning to the state law standard of 30 days or within three meetings, whichever is longer. Eagle Street Beach Party & Fiesta Eagle Street, North Adams Saturday, July 16 The Eagle Street Beach Party returns on Saturday, July 16, after a two-year hiatus. The event brings more than 250,000 pounds of sand to the downtown for a block party of full of music, games and sand castles. The family-friendly portion of the beach runs from 3:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. with the adult-oriented fiesta from 7 until 10 p.m. during which adults can enjoy margaritas and Coronas on the beach.  NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The North Adams SteepleCats Tuesday scored 10 runs in a win and allowed 11 runs in a loss in a split with the Newport Gulls. In the opener, the SteepleCats used just seven hits in a 10-7 win. Ryan Galanie went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, and Hunter Pasqualini and Tommy DiTullio each drove in a pair. Anthony Germinerio earned the win on the mound after throwing 1 and one-third scoreless innings. Newport took control of the nightcap with a seven-run second inning en route to an 11-3 win. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The City Council on Tuesday approved the transfer of $241,699 from the fiscal 2021 free cash account to stabilization and a half-million in transfers to close out fiscal 2022. "We ended up in a good place, more to be reported on that as the numbers come rolling in," said Mayor Jennifer Macksey. She expected "some decent reserves" when the fiscal 2022 free cash is certified. The mayor said the stabilization account had $574,000 in it, bringing the total amount now to about $815,699. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The General Government Committee won't recommend a draft proposal on codes of conduct for officials but encouraged committee member Ashley Shade to continue researching the issue. Shade had proposed guidelines for professional conduct shortly after taking a seat this year on the City Council and had been charged with bringing language back to the council. The council's Rules of Order relating to conduct simply state that members should avoid personalities and libel and address each other respectfully during meetings.  Tuesday's hot, muggy weather brings with it the potential for severe thunderstorms across the region. The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook until 8 p.m. on Tuesday. The Albany, N.Y., office says there is a "slight" risk for T-storms across most of eastern New York and Western Massachusetts. These storm systems could bring damaging wind gusts and there is isolated chance for a tornado. The NWS says this is a secondary threat "but cannot be ruled out."
