North Adams Recognizes Recovery, Child Cancer and Hello Week

Joe and Kathy Arabia with the mayor for the reading of the Childhood Cancer Awareness Month proclamation last week.  NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The city recognized September as National Recovery and Childhood Cancer Awareness months and this week as "Hello Week."   Mayor Jennifer Macksey read the proclamations at last week's lengthy City Council meeting. Route 112 in Colrain Closing for Bridge Work

COLRAIN, Mass. — The state Department of Transportation will close Route 112 to through traffic for approximately eight weeks beginning on Tuesday, Sept. 19.     Bridge repair work will be conducted and will include removing the concrete wearing surface on two bridges and replacing the surface with a polymer modified concrete overlayment.    Work will begin on the first bridge, located just south of the intersection of Route 112 and Charlemont Road, and will take approximately four weeks to complete.   Work will then begin on the second bridge, located just south of the intersection of Route 112 and Call Road, and will also take approximately four weeks

City Woman Wins Hometown Holidays Gift Basket

Jonathan Secor had some help in pulling the winning ticket. Congrats to Janet O'Neill of North Adams who won the big Hometown Holidays gift basket on Thursday. O'Neill won some $1,300 worth of gift certificates and merchandise.

The drawing could be entered by spending $50 downtown during the Thursday night Hometown Holiday events. Jonathan Secor of MCLA Gallery 51 said 62 people had entered the contest (including the editor of iBerkshires &mdash amazing how much cat toys cost nowadays).
