Taconic Grad Gittens Racks Up More Honors at MCLA

NORTH ADAMS, Mass.— MCLA senior guard and Taconic High School graduate Quentin Gittens has been named the MASCAC Player of the Week for the third time in four weeks.   Gittens averaged 30.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, four assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.5 blocks in a 2-0 week for the Trailblazers.   He Posted a double-double with 25 points and 12 rebounds, adding six assists, two blocks, and a steal in a 73-72 road victory at Salem State, where he sank a pair of free throws in the final seconds to secure the win. And he followed that up with a career-high 36-point performance in a 67-59 at Framingham State, adding five rebounds, four assists, two blocks, and a steal, leading the

All Saints Episcopal Church 'Ashes-To-Go'

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Ashes-to-go will be distributed in front of All Saints Episcopal Church on Wednesday, Feb. 14 from 7 am to 11 am.   All Saints Episcopal Church is located at 59 Summer St.   Ash Wednesday service will be held from noon to 7pm.   Stations of the cross in Lent will be held at noon starting Friday, Feb. 16. Other dates are Feb. 23, March 1, March 8, March 15, and March 22.

The Third Annual 'Share the Love' Challenge

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — This Valentine's Day, and throughout the month of February, the First Congregational Church North Adams (FCCNA) invites Berkshire County residents and friends to contribute to its "Share the Love" challenge.    For every dollar received, FCCNA will donate 50 cents to help three local institutions—Berkshire Food Project, Louison House, and the Al Nelson Friendship Center Food Pantry.   All proceeds from the campaign will be split evenly among the three recipient organizations.   In February 2022, FCCNA raised $5,100 for its challenge; the next year, it raised $5,550. This year the church is setting an ambitious goal of $7,500

MCLA Announces Music, Gallery and Theater Performances for Winter, Spring Semester

Mary Quinto has been teaching at Clarksburg School for 11 years.  CLARKSBURG, Mass. — Clarksburg School prekindergarten teacher Mary Quinto has been selected as the February Teacher of the Month.    The Teacher of the Month series runs for the next three months in partnership with Berkshire Community College.   Quinto has spent her entire career working at Clarksburg School. She started as a kindergarten teacher 11 years ago.    "I love everything about teaching. DCR Closes Snowmobile Trails for Lack of Snow

ADAMS, Mass. —  A lack of snow has caused the state Department of Conservation to close snowmobile trails through the state forest system in Western Mass.    DCR sent notice of Friday effective immediately that the trails are closed on Mount Greylock and at Monroe, Savoy Mountain , Mohawk Trail, Windsor and Dubuque (Hawley) state forests.    Snowpack is below normal for the region, according to the National Weather Service, with the eastern slopes of the Berkshires having between 8 and 12 inches at the higher terrain.  The remainder of the area is either snow free or has so little snowpack — trace to 4 inches depth — as to be hydrologically

YMCA Removing Services From North Adams Facility

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Northern Berkshire YMCA branch posted on its website on Thursday that they plan to remove services and programming from the Northern Berkshire branch facility, effective March 29, 2024.     According to the statement:   "Our removal of services from this branch stems from various challenges, including the prolonged pool closure, childcare availability, staffing issues, and ongoing facility maintenance needs. Vermont Police Identify Victim in Pownal Stabbing

POWNAL, Vt. —  State Police are investigating a fatal stabbing in Pownal that occurred on Tuesday.    The victim was identified as Casey Gras, 36, of Bennington.    An autopsy at the Chief Medical Examiner's Office in Burlington on Wednesday determined the cause of death was multiple stab wounds of the abdomen and chest, and the manner of death is a homicide.   The investigation began at about 3 p.m. when police received a report of an altercation on Chickadee Drive in the Pownal Estates mobile home park. Responding troopers located an adult man deceased at the scene.   The State Police's Crime Scene Search Team is processing the scene where

Softball, Baseball Winter Vacation Camps Offered

PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- The Infield Berkshire Baseball Academy is offering winter vacation day camps for baseball and softball players aged 8 to 12.   The baseball camp will run from 9 a.m. to noon on Feb. 19 and 20. The softball camp is 9 a.m. to noon on Feb. 21 and 22.   The cost is $50 per day.   The camp will focus on basic offense and defense skills. Charter School Basketball Team Shows Improvement in Senior Day Loss

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Eathan Joseph had a double-double Wednesday for the Eagle Hill basketball team in a 60-45 win over Berkshire Arts and Technology Charter.   Joseph scored 19 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and blocked a couple of shots for Eagle Hill, which used a 26-6 third quarter to break open a five-point game.   The Wolf Pack got 17 points and 10 rebounds from Samseedy Touray and 15 points from Jsaun Griffin.   Touray scored four straight points late in the first quarter to give the hosts a 13-8 lead before Eagle Hill scored on back-to-back possessions to cut it to a one-point game at the end of the period.   Eagle Hill started the second quarter on an 8-0 run that
