Legislative Hearing in Pittsfield Tackles Inflated Utility Rates

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A legislative hearing was held at the Berkshire Innovation Center last week to address rate increases in electricity, gas, and oil with representatives from the Healey-Driscoll administration and utility companies.   In the last two years, electricity rates have increased by an average of 12 percent and natural gas prices by 1 percent and Western Mass. communities feel that they are experiencing the brunt of it.   The session began with a panel discussion between legislators and the Secretary of the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs Rebecca Tepper, Commissioner of the Department of Energy Resources Elizabeth Mahoney, and Chair of the

Snow, Slush in the Forecast for Monday

Sunday's downpours could well turn to snow before dawn on Monday.    The National Weather Service in Albany, N.Y., has issued a winter weather advisory for most of Berkshire County through 1 p.m. on Monday.    The higher elevations could get 3 to 8 inches and wind gusts of up to 40 mph — with the possibility of a thunderstorm before 4 a.m.!   The morning commute could be a slushy and slippery mess with reduced visibility. Precipitation Monday morning could be heavy with rain or wet snow.    Heavy wet snow could also mean downed tree limbs and power lines causing power outages.    The conditions will be worse to the north. Serving up hot cocoa at a tree lighting event.  NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — There has been a community of young people building a safe place at the First Baptist Church over the past decade.    It's a place where kids can be themselves, experience no judgement and get along with others from a wide range of backgrounds. Zator Leads MCLA Women's Basketball in Road Win

BOSTON -- Kristie Zator scored 16 points Saturday to lead the MCLA women's basketball team to a 41-40 win over Wentworth.   Zator's lay-up with 3 minutes, 40 seconds to play gave the Trailblazers a 41-36 lead, and MCLA's defense held off Wentworth's comeback bid down the stretch.   Zator led the defense with five steals.   Hailey Peabody scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds.   MCLA (2-8) hosts St. Joseph of Connecticut on Monday.   Men's Basketball PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. -- SUNY Plattsburgh held off a comeback bid by MCLA to secure a 68-66 win.   The Cardinals took a 68-59 lead with 3:07 remaining.   The Trailblazers battled back and

North Adams Menorah Symbol of Perseverance, Hope

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The first "candle" on the city's menorah was lighted on Thursday night marking the beginning of the eight nights of Hanukkah.    The "Festival of Lights" marks the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem. North Adams Holiday Music Tour on Chase Hill

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The North Adams Holiday Music Tour on Sunday, Dec.10 includes a celebration of Hanukkah at The Floating Tower on Chase Hill. 

The entire event is free. 

Located at 1 Chase Hill, the property is a five-minute walk from downtown North Adams via Houghton Street

From 12 -1 PM, Chanan Ben Simone will lead the musical celebration.  He is a composer and vocalist of Jewish Moroccan descent known in the mainstream pop music world as Ben Simone.  This performance is made possible by the free artists' residencies offered to refugees and immigrants on site.

Clarksburg Taxpayers Will See Drop in Tax Rate, Increase in Bills

That has changed the estimated tax rate to $15.35 per $1,000.
