Community Legal Aid Kicks Off Berkshire County Access to Justice Campaign

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Community Legal Aid is kicking off its annual Berkshire County Access to Justice Campaign, which seeks to bring legal help to residents in the county facing a variety of civil legal problems.    Over the last year, Community Legal Aid's staff of attorneys and paralegals helped more than 700 Berkshire County elderly and low-income clients last year, impacting an estimated 1,750 residents trying to avoid homelessness, seeking safety from violence, and others fighting for life's necessities. Man Pleads Guilty to Gun, Drug Charges Connected to North Adams Drug Bust

North Adams Hospital Seeks Overlay District to Support Medical Services

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Berkshire Medical Center is requesting an overlay district for the campus of the reopening North Adams Regional Hospital.    The Hospital Avenue Overlay District would cover only the property off Hospital Avenue owned by BMC that includes the former hospital building, the Clark House, Doctor's Building and Ambulatory Care Center.    The purpose of the overlay would be "to enhance and facilitate the provision of hospital and medical services in the City of North Adams and surrounding areas to permit by-right medical uses on the 29-acre parcel."   Specifically, it would abnegate the need for change-of-use applications for NARH

Berkshires Gets $8M in State Economic Development Grants

The second phase of Blackinton infrastructure project in North Adams is being funded by a $2 million Massworks grant.  NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The state's Executive Office of Economic Development has announced $164 million in grant funding through the Community One Stop for Growth application portal, including $7,824,400 for Berkshire County.    North Adams received the highest amount in the county: $2.25 million for public and private development projects. Since coming to North Adams, Andrew has demonstrated a strong passion for the city. He has become an active member of several organizations and boards, including First Fridays, North Adams Pride, North Adams Vacant Storefront Window Art, and more. MCLA Receives Grant for New Equipment From Mass Life Sciences Center

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) has received a $626,536 Workforce Development Grant from the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center (MLSC).    Over the next two years, this grant will fund the purchase of essential equipment for the College's biology and chemistry programs. Berkshire Scenic Railway Museum Poster Series

ADAMS, Mass. — The Berkshire Scenic Railway Museum (BSRM) has introduced a poster series promoting its Hoosac Valley Train Ride, the Town of Adams, and the Berkshires.   Working with a New England artist, BSRM developed the poster series highlighting the sights and attractions along the historic Adams Branch Line between Adams and North Adams. BSRM operates scenic train rides along this line.   The posters are designed in the style of the colorful artwork created under the Works Progress Administration during the Great Depression, and hark back to the vintage railroad advertisements that promoted tourist attractions along their routes. North Adams Airport to Look into Reported Low-Flying Aircraft

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Airport Commission heard from a resident who lives east of the airport who had concerns about an uptick in low-flying aircraft.   The airport's engineer, Peter Enzien of Stantec, suspected that the planes were flying lower because the airport recently underwent some obstacle removal and cut some large trees impeding the proper landing at runway 29.   He said with obstacles removed, planes are simply landing properly now.   "If the trees were there before, it was an obstruction, so the planes had to land a little bit longer or higher as they approach," he told the commission on Tuesday.
