MCLA Professor's Research Featured in Top 10 Physics Breakthroughs of 2023

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — MCLA Physics Professor Dr. Emily Maher, one of 65 scientists in the MINERvA collaboration at Fermi National Accelerator Lab (Fermilab), has published work that has been chosen as one of the Top 10 Physics Breakthroughs of 2023 in Physics World.     Over a 10-year span, the MINERvA detector recorded the interactions of neutrinos and antineutrinos, the antimatter partners of the neutrino. Clarksburg Officials Want to Study School Regionalization

CLARKSBURG, Mass. — Town officials are asking the school superintendency union to consider regionalization as a way to reduce education costs.    The Select Board met with school officials during a joint meeting on Wednesday night at Town Hall.    Select Board member Daniel Haskins said he and John Franzoni, superintendent of Northern Berkshire School Union, had "spoken briefly about the possibility of moving forward with investigating the advantages and disadvantages."   Franzoni pointed to the study that had been done with Clarksburg and Stamford, Vt., a few years ago for an interstate school merger and recommended a similar

Local Firefighters Graduate from Firefighting Academy

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — The Massachusetts Firefighting Academy recently graduated Class S35 consisting of 27 firefighters representing 16 fire departments including North Adams and Pittsfield.   State Fire Marshal Jon M. MCLA Women's Basketball Falls at Fitchburg State

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Walgreens pharmacy store is closing Thursday, Feb. 22.    A spokesperson for the company confirmed the closing on Thursday and said "We will make every effort to place impacted team members at nearby stores."   Pharmacy customers are being told their prescriptions will automatically transfer to the Walgreens at 212 Main St. in Williamstown.    iBerkshires did not get a response on questions about the building being for sale or if other Walgreens in Berkshire County are also being affected.     Walgreens announced last year the closure of 150 stores in the United States; it closed about 200 in 2019.   The

North Adams License Commission Reduces Tavern Hours

North Berkshire Waste District Interested In Hydrogen Facility Project

ADAMS, Mass.— Members of the Northern Berkshire Solid Waste Management District (NBSWMD) were intrigued by a plan by Local Power to work towards community-wide decarbonization through a waste hydrogen facility in Western Massachusetts. 

In a presentation on Jan. 11,  Local Power President Paul Fenn told the district members that Local Power helps local governments set up community-wide decarbonization with a focus on localization "as a core strategy in an industry defined by centralized energy and capital sources."
