Lenox Soccer Program Seeks Newcomers from Pre-K to Fourth Grade

LENOX, Mass. -- Beginning soccer players in pre-kindergarten through fourth grade are welcome to join the Mighty Kickers program this fall.   The development program is open to children from any community. Sessnions are held Saturday mornings from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Lenox Memorial Middle and High School from Sept. 9 through Oct. 21, except for Oct. 7.   Players will meet with a certified coach or high school varsity or college level player to learn the basics of the sport through fun games and drills.   The program is organized by Lenox Youth Soccer in conjuntion with the Lenox Youth Football Club.   Pre-K participants must be 4 years old by Sept. 9.   The cost is

Solid Waste Forum Urges Support for Upcoming PaintCare Legislation

Inaugural 3-on-3 Hoop Fest Lights Up North Adams Armory

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Three days of three-on-three basketball resulted in four teams being crowned champions on Sunday afternoon at the Armory.   The Northern Berkshire Sports Academy hosted its inaugural HoopFest 3-on-3 tournament at the Ashland Street venue, chosen when it became clear the weekend’s weather would make things problematic on the outdoor courts at the Noel Field Athletic Complex.   Twenty teams of up to five players in four divisions competed Friday evening through Sunday for local playground bragging rights.   Organizer Russell Beauchamp said most of the teams hailed from North County, though at least one squad traveled up from Great

Two SteepleCats to Start NECBL All-Star Game

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – North Adams SteepleCats Kyle Hannon and Samuel Tackett Sunday were named starters for next weekend’s New England Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Game.   Hannon got the nod to start for the NECBL Western Division at third base.   The Penn State senior is hitting .282 in 29 games this summer. He has two home runs, seven doubles and 10 RBIs.   Tackett will start at third base on Sunday, July 23, at Fraser Field in Lynn, Mass.   This summer, he is hitting .268 with eight home runs and 22 RBIs, both high on the team. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Billy Gerlott went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and four RBIs Friday to lead the Danbury Westerners past the SteepleCats in New England Collegiate Baseball League action.   Cedric Rose went 2-for-4 with a homer for North Adams, which got a double and an RBI from Samuel Tackett.   Will Tobin struck out four and allowed one run in four innings of relief work on the mound for the SteepleCats.   North Adams (8-23) hosts Bristol on Saturday at 5 p.m.

SteepleCats Drop Pair on Thursday Road Trip

The North Adams SteepleCats Thursday dropped a pair of road games in two different cities as the New England Collegiate Baseball League tries to get its schedule back on track after a number of rainouts.   At noon, the 'Cats played at the Mystic, Conn., Schooners, who scored a run in the bottom of the ninth for a 3-2, walkoff win.   Jack Reynolds went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for North Adams. Julien Hernandez went 5 and one-third innings on the mound, striking out five in a no decision.   On Thursday night, the Bristol, Conn., Blues beat the SteepleCats, 12-1.   Hudson Polk drove in a run, and Gehrig Ebel doubled for North Adams.   The SteepleCats (8-22)

Peer-Led Opioid Recovery Center Coming to North Adams

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — One year into a federally funded study to find ways to address the opioid crisis, a local coalition is close to opening a peer-led recovery center in downtown North Adams.   John Crane of the Brien Center and Richard Alcombright, who represents the city on the HEALing Communities Study's Community Coalition, spoke to the city council on Tuesday to give an update on the coalition's activities.   North Adams and Pittsfield are among more than a dozen communities in the commonwealth participating in the study, an program of the National Institutes of Health's Helping to End Addiction Long-term Initiative.   The goal is to test strategies to

North Adams Fire Chief Returns To Duty

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The North Adams Police Department concluded the investigation of a pedestrian accident involving Fire Chief Brent Lefebvre and has deemed the incident was accidental with no criminal element.   “It was determined that this was an unfortunate accident with no criminal elements,” Mayor Jennifer Macksey wrote in a statement released Wednesday. “Chief Lefebvre was issued Massachusetts Uniform Citation for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.  As a result of these findings, Chief Lefebvre has returned to full duty effective immediately.  We hope for a speedy recovery for the victim.”   The statement regarding the
