NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The North Adams Housing Authority (NAHA) announced that it has been selected as a recipient of funds for the Apartment Wi-Fi Program.    This initiative aims to enhance digital equity and connectivity for residents, ensuring that everyone has equal access to high-quality internet services.   The Apartment Wi-Fi Program is a collaborative effort by the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) and the Massachusetts Broadband Institute (MBI).  It is funded by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), and covers equipment purchases, project logistics assistance, and procurement support to construct Wi-Fi networks within the residential communities. Public Encouraged to Nominate a Crossing Guard to be Honored

BOSTON — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT), through its Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Program, is encouraging the public to nominate a crossing guard for recognition for the 2024 Crossing Guard Appreciation Campaign. 

The campaign begins with a Crossing Guard of the Year nomination period, followed by Crossing Guard Appreciation Day on March 20, 2024, and culminates with announcing the Crossing Guard of the Year award winner(s). The winner(s) will also be recognized at the Annual Safe Routes to School Awards Ceremony in June. Emergency Demo Called for Collapsing North Adams Building

Firefighters were called to the rear of 19 Eagle after calls about bricks falling from the building.  NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — By the end of the Wednesday, Moderne Studios may be just a memory.    The rear of the three-story brick building collapsed Tuesday night and officials have deemed it a public hazard that needed an emergency demolition.    "We're very sad that the back of the Moderne Studio building has fallen down despite our efforts to work with the landlord," said Mayor Jennifer Macksey. Mass MoCA Workers Announce March 6 Strike

NORTH ADAMS, Mass — Unionized employees at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art say they will go on strike starting Wednesday, March 6, if no agreement on wages is reached by then.   Employees will begin picketing the museum starting 8 a.m. and will picket daily until an agreement is reached.     The employees' union, part of Local 2110 UAW, was formed in April 2021. After a one-day strike in August 2022, employees reached an agreement on a first contract that allowed them to re-open the agreement the following October to negotiate further wage increases. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Voters in Massachusetts and Vermont will be heading to the polls on Tuesday to cast ballots in the presidential primaries.    Super Tuesday includes voting in 15 states that will apportion about a third of all delegates to the primary winners. New York State and Connecticut vote on April 2.   Massachusetts is a partially open primary in that voters who are enrolled in a party can only vote in that primary but unenrolled voters can choose a Democratic, Libertarian or Republican ballot. North Adams Council Asked to Endorse Paint Stewardship Program

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – The City Council Tuesday heard an appeal to add the city's name to a growing list of communities supporting a paint stewardship program for the commonwealth.   Tom Irwin of Dalton made the Steeple City his latest stop in a campaign to drum up support for the program, which would fund paint recycling through a $1 per gallon fee charged at the point of sale.   Irwin explained that the paint stewardship program, already implemented in Connecticut, New York and Vermont, would be one way to address Massachusetts' trash surplus.   And it could be a model for future programs to more efficiently dispose of other waste.   Irwin told the
