Michael Bradley is honored as the Berkshire County Coalition Veteran of the Year for 2023 in Pittsfield. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The county's two cities held Veterans Day observances on Friday to remember and recognize those who had served in the armed forces. Normally held on Nov. 11 — marking the end of World War 1 on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918 — it was recognized on Friday since the holiday this year falls on a Saturday. WORCESTER, Mass. -- Chloe Garber had a double-double Thursday to lead the MCLA volleyball team to a four-set win over Worcester State in the MASCAC semi-finals. Garber recorded 12 kills and 16 digs in the 25-16, 25-18, 20-25, 25-21 win. Audrey Melson had 13 kills, and Lee High's Elizabeth Brown recorded five kills and 10 digs in the win. The third-seeded Trailblazers advance to play fourth-seeded Framingham State in the conference title match. The National Weather Service in Albany, N.Y., has a winter weather advisory in effect beginning at 9 p.m. on Wednesday through 1 p.m. on Thursday. Plan on slippery road conditions, especially on untreated surfaces. The hazardous conditions could impact the Thursday morning commute. Affected areas in Southern Vermont and the Northern Berkshires could see up to an inch of snow and ice accumulations of 2/10ths of an inch. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Jessica Rumlow will be leaving the Berkshire Family YMCA (BFYMCA) at the end of the year to work for the Alliance of Massachusetts YMCAs as the Chief Operations Officer. Rumlow has worked for the BFYMCA for 10 years and was appointed to the CEO position in 2019. During her tenure at the BFYMCA she supported its expansion of services into Bennington, Vt.., and lead the organization through COVID, but her biggest accomplishment was completing the $12.4M renovation project of the historic Pittsfield Branch. Veterans Day falls on Saturday, Nov. 11, and will also be observed Friday, Nov. 10, as a state and federal holiday. The federal holiday is to commemorate the service of the nation's military veterans in ensuring peace.
It was first known as Armistice Day to mark the end of World War I at the 11th hour, on the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918. BOSTON — The state treasurer isn't calling you looking for money. State Treasurer Deb Goldberg issued a scam warning on Monday cautioning Bay Staters about fraudulent phone calls claiming to be from her office. The illegitimate calls claim "you owe money to the Treasury to avoid an arrest for drug possession." We're pretty sure you can't pay your way out of a drug possession charge and the Office of the State Treasurer does not call people to collect money.
