MCLA Art Exhibition: 'Stigmas and Stories: Changing the Narrative'

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts' (MCLA) Gallery 51 will host "Stigmas and Stories: Changing the Narrative," featuring artwork from students in the Classes of 2020, 2021, 2022, with an in-person opening reception at the gallery from 5-6:30 p.m. on Friday, May 6, 2022.     This event free and is open to the public, and refreshments will be served.     This exhibition will feature three graduating senior artists: Kennedy Sobon, Nhi Lam, and Ana Sheehy, all from the Class of 2022, as well as the work from from the 2020 and 2021 classes.     According to a press release, the artists explore how art can

Mass MoCA Teen Invitational Celebrates Local Art Students

The winner of the $300 Berkshire Eagle grand prize was Christopher Fortier of Hoosac Valley High School for his handsewn 'Cliff the bull' costume.  NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Nearly 300 area high school students participated in this year's Teen Invitational at Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art.   The weekend exhibition was the 10th event and the first since 2019 because of the pandemic.   This year, the invitational was held inside Building 6 next to the Jenny Holzer exhibit. The students expressed their creativity in a wide array of media include photography, ceramics, textiles, machining, paper and painting. Eight high schools participated:

Seline Skoug Takes on Role as SVMC Breast Health Nurse Navigator

BENNINGTON, Vt. — Seline Skoug, RN, has taken on the role of full-time breast health nurse navigator at the Breast Health and Imaging Center at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center (SVMC), part of Southwestern Vermont Health Care.   "My goal is to be an educator and an advocate for those needing breast cancer screening. However, from the moment a patient needs imaging beyond their initial mammogram, I am there to support them, explain the clinical reasons for further imaging or treatment, and remove barriers to care," Skoug said. Long Vehicles Banned from Mount Greylock Roads

LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — Members of DCR told the Mount Greylock Advisory Council that in most cases vehicles longer than 22 feet will no longer be allowed to traverse the roads to the summit.   "I think overall everyone will be pleased with the way this came out, and it will fix a lot of problems for us," Mark Jester, mountain district manager for the state Department of Conservation and Recreation, said.    The councilors at their last meeting had talked about concerns they had with school buses and other long vehicles navigating the tricky summit roads. City Woman Wins Hometown Holidays Gift Basket

Jonathan Secor had some help in pulling the winning ticket. Congrats to Janet O'Neill of North Adams who won the big Hometown Holidays gift basket on Thursday. O'Neill won some $1,300 worth of gift certificates and merchandise.

The drawing could be entered by spending $50 downtown during the Thursday night Hometown Holiday events. Jonathan Secor of MCLA Gallery 51 said 62 people had entered the contest (including the editor of iBerkshires &mdash amazing how much cat toys cost nowadays).
