SVHC Announces DAISY Award Winner

BENNINGTON, Vt. — Brittany Felton, RN, a Medical/Surgical nurse, was the May recipient of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses at Southwestern Vermont Health Care (SVHC).   "Patients appreciate Brittany's motivational spirit and her extraordinary attention to their unique needs," said Pamela Duchene, PhD, APRN, SVHC's chief nursing officer and vice president for Patient Care Services. North Adams Man Injured in Williamstown Motorcycle Accident

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — A North Adams resident Saturday night was found bleeding and unconscious after a motorcycle accident on North Hoosac Road near the North Adams line, according to a Police Department report.   Edward Laurin Lacosse Jr. of West Shaft Road was traveling west at a high rate of speed in a group of three riders when he lost control of his vehicle, according to a report filed by Police Officer Shuan William.   Lacosse, who was operating a motorcycle belonging to a friend at the time, started to lay the vehicle down and applied the brakes hard, the report reads. The motorcycle crossed into the eastbound lane and crashed into a guard rail.   The report says

Mount Greylock School Committee Member: Widen Audience for Diversity Discussion

North Adams Awarded $200K for Mohawk Marquee Restoration

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The city is receiving $200,000 in state funding toward the refurbishment of the landmark Mohawk Theater marquee.    North Adams was awarded $200,000 from the Regional Economic Development Organization program, which is administered through the Massachusetts Office of Business Development. Some $2.1 million in the competitive grants were announced on Wednesday for 38 projects across the state, including more than $600,000 in the Berkshires.    The status of the 1938 theater has been the center of numerous discussion on downtown development and not a few biennial mayor contests. Mayfest Returns to Downtown Bennington

North Adams School Committee OKs $19M Budget for Fiscal 2023

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The School Committee on Tuesday approved a fiscal 2023 budget of $18,757,788, an increase of 5.56 percent over this year.    The budget is up $988,713 but Chapter 70 education aid is also up by an anticipated $1,070,575, or 7.73 percent, for fiscal 2023.    The main drivers of the increase are salaries, contracted obligations, one restored position, and a new bus contract.   "The big change here is that I wanted to emphasize that we're restoring a performing arts position as opposed to adding it," said Superintendent Barbara Malkas.
