Madeline Tillem of Lenox was assistant stage manager for the fall theater production of "The Play That Goes Wrong," directed by Jim Van Valen, showing Oct. 30 to Nov. 2 in Muhlenberg College's Baker Theatre. A graduate of Miss Hall's School, Tillem is studying history and psychology at the college in Allentown, Pa.
Katie Aragon Alvarez of Pittsfield began her first semester in the fall of 2025 at Lasell University in Newton.
First-year students at Emmanuel College participate in its Day of Service.
Olivia Goewey of Ashley Falls, Emanuel Brown of Great Barrington, Sasha Taft of North Adams, Molly Pope of Pittsfield and Jayne Beringer of Williamstown were among the more than 360 first-year students participating in Emmanuel College's New Student Day of Service in September. In addition to encouraging new students to embrace the Boston college's rich history of serving the common good, the day of service helped them connect with Boston and each other.
Simon Shin of Williamstown recently matriculated as a member of the class of 2029 at Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y. Selected from a pool of 8,904 applicants to the college, Shin joins a college community of about 2,000 undergraduate students.
Matthew Kinzer of Dalton was selected to receive the Collaboration Recognition Award at Lasell University in Newton for the fall 2025 semester. This peer-nominated award recognizes students who demonstrate excellence in collaboration through effective communication, idea-sharing, and teamwork. The award reflects Lasell's emphasis on collaboration as a core learning outcome and a key career readiness competency identified by the National Association of Colleges & Employers.
The University at Albany, N.Y., welcomed students back to campus for the start of the fall 2025 semester, including some 5,482 new Great Danes. Among the new students are Pittsfield residents Isabelle Berkel, majoring in criminal justice, and Rosemary Tufts of Pittsfield in informatics. Matthew Muller, also of Pittsfield, is pursuing his doctorate in English and Robert Manning of Clarksburg his master's in philosophy.
Jack Wildgoose of Pittsfield, a junior majoring in aerospace engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, was a member of a student team that recently completed a professional-level research-driven project titled "Researching Sustainable Tourism in Prague." Known as the Interactive Qualifying Project, this is a core part of the undergraduate experience at WPI and is centered around project-based learning and a hands-on approach. All undergraduates are required to complete a project, usually in their junior year, through which they apply science and technology to address an important societal need or issue.
Brodie Thomas Lanoue of Adams, a senior majoring in environmental science and policy, was named a Presidential Scholar for the fall 2025 semester at Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y.
Graduations
Kenza Yousfi of Williamstown, graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a doctor of philosophy in anthropology. He was one of more than 1,600 students who graduated in the summer and received an undergraduate, master's or doctoral degree.
Academic Lists & Awards
Silas Rella-Neill of Pownal, Vt., was recently named to the 2025 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) fall All-Academic Team for men's soccer at Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y. The recognition honors those who have maintained a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or higher. Rella-Neill, a junior majoring in environmental studies, is a graduate of Mount Anthony Union High School in Bennington, Vt.
Elmira (N.Y.) College has named Madison Lodowski and Stefan Zygawski, both of Pittsfield, to the dean's list for academic achievement for the fall 2025 term.
Matthew Kinzer, a Lasell University student from Dalton, was named to the dean's list for his academic performance in the fall 2025 semester at the Newton college.
