Cheyenne Wimpenney
Stamford, Vt., resident Cheyenne Wimpenney was welcomed into Alpha Phi Sigma National Honor Society on May 2 at the Western New England University chapter's annual induction ceremony in the Campus Center.
Alpha Phi Sigma is the national criminal justice honor society with a mission to promote critical thinking, rigorous scholarship, and ethical standards of the criminal justice profession. Wimpenney is working toward a degree in criminal justice at the Springfield college.
Elmira (N.Y.) College has announced this year's recipients of its annual Key Award. Sponsored by the EC Alumni Association, the award recognizes students in their junior year for high scholastic achievement, leadership, citizenship, and participation in extracurricular activities. Recipients receive an $88,000 scholarship over a four-year period, $22,000 per year, upon enrolling at Elmira College.
This year's award was given to 831 students in 17 states in a tradition that goes back to 1935. Local recipients include Cordelia Huffstater of Adams; Samantha Ullrich of Housatonic; Riley Coach of Great Barrington; Christina Slick of Lanesborough; Dominic Campoli, Jshay Davis, Prosper Ezan and Alexana Washburn, all of Pittsfield; and Lilabel Kierstead of Tyringham
"This award is given to students with the potential to excel academically, serve as leaders, and go on to enjoy success in life," said Charles Lindsay, president of Elmira College. "We hope they will choose to make Elmira College their place."
The Western New England University chapter of Omicron Delta Kappa National Honor Society welcomed 62 students at the Springfield university's annual induction ceremony on April 19. Among them were Cheyenne Wimpenney of Stamford, Vt., who is working toward a degree in criminal justice, and Caitlin Hall and Gwendolyn Scorpa, both of Pittsfield, who are pursuing degrees in health studies and in neuroscience/course track, respectively.
Omicron Delta Kappa is a national leadership honor society that recognizes and encourages achievement in scholarship, athletics, campus or community service, social and religious activities, as well as campus government, journalism, speech and the mass media, and creative and performing arts.
Samantha Blau
Western New England University in Springfield held its College of Business Senior Awards Ceremony on April 30, honored 13 graduating seniors, selected based on their academic achievement in their major or their overall class standing.
Samantha Blau of Pittsfield received the Outstanding Student in Marketing Communication/Advertising award. This award recognizes a graduating senior selected by the faculty for excellence in the study of Marketing Communication/Advertising.
Emerson College student Esther Chilson of Lanesborough participated in a number of stage productions this spring at the Boston college. Chilson, a junior, is majoring in stage and production management. She participated in Emerson Stage's production of "The Impracticality of Modern-Day Mastodons" in January; a production of "A Doll's House" in February; NewFest Short Works 2024, featuring short plays written, directed, and performed by performing arts students, a production of "16 Winters, or The Bear's Tale," and "Second Star to the Right," a NewFest 2024: Rod Parker Playwriting Fellowship Production, all in March, and a production of "Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812" in April.
Kayla Johnson of Pittsfield was among 50 students recognized by American International College in Springfield during its 2024 Co-Curricular Leadership and Involvement Awards Ceremony on April 22. The awards shine a light on students who embody AIC's spirit through their leadership, service, dedication as student employees, volunteerism, and other outstanding contributions. Johnson was presented with the Rex's Best Award, given to juniors and seniors who serve as a positive role models in and out of the classroom.
Abigail Wells is presented the F.J. Maloney Awa
American International College in Springfield has honored Abigail Wells of Windsor with the F.J. Maloney Award. First given in 1941, the award is presented to the most outstanding male and female athletes over their four years. Eighteen student-athletes recognized for their outstanding contributions at the Athletics Awards Night on April 24.
Wells is in her final seasons on the college's softball team and has been a four-year starter in center field, earning NE10 All-Conference honors as a sophomore and posting a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in 2024 to this point.
Annika Wainwright
Annika Wainwright of Great Barrington was among 16 Clark University artists to have artworks featured February in the 20th annual ArtsWorcester College Show, an exhibition open to all undergraduate college students studying or residing in Massachusetts.
Wainwright exhibited a black and white photograph, titled "Bear," of a sheepdog she called Gus watching over his flock. The college show was juried by Chloe Zaug, associate director of the MassArt Art Museum, who selected 71 works by 58 artists representing 10 Massachusetts institutions from more than 230 submissions.
Graduations
Bard Academy at Simon's Rock in Great Barrington graduated 17 students in May 2024. After the 10th grade, students at Bard Academy matriculate from the two-year high school to begin college early. The local graduates are Hayden Yu of Dalton, Reese Haley of Great Barrington, Samuel Hurst of Monterey and Bianca Lovell of Williamstown.
Roger Williams University in Bristol, R.I., awarded the following class of 2024 students degrees in May: Maka Sears of Dalton, bachelor of science in marine biology; Norah Miller of Pittsfield, bachelor of science in biology; and Madison Tobin of Pittsfield, bachelor of arts in elementary education.
Om Dharmendrakumar Patel of Pittsfield has graduated from the University at Albany, N.Y., during the 180th commencement ceremonies. Patel earned a bachelor of science, magna cum laude, in accounting.
Henry Sniezek of Adams, who majored in industrial engineering, received a bachelor of degree and Raul Villalobos of Pittsfield, majoring mechanical engineering, both bachelor and master's degrees at Worcester Polytechnic Institute's 155th commencement. More than 1,100 undergraduate degrees were awarded during the ceremony with keynote speaker Nancy M. Pimental, a 1987 WPI graduate and writer and executive producer on the Showtime series "Shameless."
College of the Holy Cross in Worcester celebrated its 178th commencement on May 24 at the DCU Center in Worcester. Laurie Leshin, director of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory and former president of Worcester Polytechnic Institute, delivered this year's address to the Class of 2024, who included Molly Flynn of Great Barrington, summa cum laude, Samantha Scoco of Pittsfield, magna cum laude, Nathaniel Haley of Tyringham and Jude Rorke of Williamstown.
Luke Clark of Pittsfield was awarded a bachelor of science sports communication at the 144th commencement of Emerson College, Boston, on May 12 at the Agganis Arena.
Holly Ann Chappell of Lenox earned a bachelor of science in psychology from University of Maryland Global Campus in Adelphi in spring 2024. Chappell was one of more than 14,000 students worldwide who earned degrees from UMGC in the 2023-24.

Western New England University held its undergraduate commencement ceremony on May 19 at the MassMutual Center, celebrating the Class of 2024. The keynote speaker, journalist Latoyia Edwards, talked about the importance of bringing passion and intensity to one's work without overshadowing what's most important: family. "If you don't remember any piece of advice that I give you this morning, remember to never take anyone who loves and supports you for granted."

Eleanor Sangree of the town of Washington and Xavier Vilaubi of Williamstown received bachelor of arts degrees at the at Hamilton College's 212th commencement on Sunday, May 19, in Clinton, N.Y.. Sangree graduated cum laude with departmental honors in biology and environmental studies and Vilaubi majored in environmental studies.
Jackson Keplinger of Cheshire graduated from Emmanuel College in Boston on Saturday, May 18, during the college's 102nd commencement exercises. Keplinger received a bachelor of arts in International Studies during the ceremony.
Maria Arce Leonardo of Great Barrington graduated with a master's degree from Troy (Ala.) University during the spring semester/Term 4 of the 2023-2024 academic year.
Olivia Thiemann of West Stockbridge graduated magna cum laude with bachelor of arts degrees in the theater and psychology on May 19 at commencement ceremonies Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pa.
Rochester (N.Y.) Institute of Technology conferred nearly 4,500 degrees at all of its campuses in the 2023-2024 academic year. RIT's academic convocation celebration was held in May and featured remarks by Patricia "Pattie" Moore, a designer and alumna of the class of 1974.
The following local residents received degrees: Nea Bergendahl of North Adams received a bachelor of science in biomedical engineering; Riley Schultheis of Pittsfield received a bachelor of science in computer engineering; Nick Soldato of Pittsfield received a bachelor of fine arts in film and animation, and Andrew Dorrell of West Stockbridge received a bachelor of science in computer science.
Maya Finston-Fox of Monterey, a graduate of Miss Hall's School in Pittsfield, graduated from Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio, with a bachelor of arts degree in political science at the university's 174th commencement exercises on May 4.

The University of Rhode Island in Kingston celebrated more than 4,100 of its newest alumni during its 2024 commencement. Actress and Rhode Island native Viola Davis, one of only 19 people to have won all four of the major American performing arts awards, delivered a keynote address, sharing a message of transformation, healing, and love with graduates.
Nearly 4,000 undergraduate degrees and 800 graduate degrees were conveyed to students during the ceremonies which took place May 17-19.
Among them were: Lucas Kisiel of Great Barrington, Kaylee McNeice of North Adams, Paityn Salerno of Otis and Kimberly Gniadek of Pittsfield.
Sean Soper of Dalton received a bachelor of science in business administration in sports and recreation management; Daniel Hayhurst of Housatonic, master of arts degree in the counseling psychology, and Abigail Wells of Windsor received a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice during American International College's 139th commencement ceremony on May 11 at the Mass Mutual Center in Springfield.
The University of Hartford in West Hartford, Conn., congratulates the 964 students who received graduate and undergraduate degrees as part of the class of 2024, including Emily Rada of Great Barrington, who received a doctor of physical therapy; Caroline Hadley of New Ashford, master of science from the College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions; Thomas Rabasco of Pittsfield, bachelor of science from the Barney School of Business, and Brayden Smith of Williamstown, bachelor of science from the College of Engineering, Technology and Architecture.
Salve Regina University President Kelli Armstrong conferred 503 bachelor's degrees, 271 master's degrees and 22 doctoral degrees to members of the class of 2024 this May. They included Lily Ouillette of Pittsfield, who received a bachelor of applied science in music education, and Ella Korte of West Stockbridge, bachelor of science in chemistry.
Raul Villalobos of Pittsfield was presented bachelor's and master's of science degrees at Worcester Polytechnic Institute's 155th commencement on May 10. Nearly 1,100 undergraduate degrees were awarded during the ceremony. Villalobos majored in mechanical engineering.
Benjamin Lamb of North Adams earned a doctor of philosophy from the Office of Graduate Studies at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. He was among 3,484 graduates who received degrees from the during commencement exercises in May.

Samuel Fox of Dalton was named to the Champlain College trustees' list for the spring 2024 semester. Students on the list have achieved a 4.0 grade-point average for two or more consecutive semesters at the Burlington, Vt., college. Fox is majoring in game programming.
Emma Nardi of Ashley Falls, majoring in elementary education and youth development, and psychology major Brianne Trudeau of Stamford, Vt., were among the 812 students named to the president's list for the spring semester at Plymouth State University in New Hampshire.
Victoria Breen of Great Barrington has achieved president's list honors for the spring 2024 semester at Nichols College in Dudley.
