RANDOLPH, Vt. --  It took two extra holes and a sudden death play-off, but MCLA's  Matt Gover won his third individual title of the season today claiming the Tony Mariano Invitational hosted by Norwich University at the Montague Golf Club.

 

Gover shot an even par 71 with a birdie on the 8th hole and an eagle on the 15th to tie Norwich University's Cooper Bertrand before winning the title on the second play-off hole.

 

Two weeks ago, Gover won the Norwich Invitational on the same course and earlier this week he won the MCLA Invitational at the Waubeeka Country Club.

 

The Norwich Gray team took the overall team title with a combined score of 306 with New England College finishing second with a 309 and MCLA taking third place with a 320.

 

MCLA's Alex Ferris shot a 78 to finish tied for 6th. Fellow Trailblazers Paul Roeder (85), Alex Ferris (86) and Addam Brunner (98) all contributed to the team's third place finish.

 

MCLA is right back at it Saturday and Sunday, taking aim at the two-day Williams Invitational at the Taconic Golf Club.

 

Women's Cross Country

MILTON, N.Y. — MCLA sophomore Kristie Zator took home a top-ten finish, placing ninth in the 6-kilometer New Paltz Invitational held at the Hudson Valley Sports Dome.

 

SUNY New Paltz sophomore Lillian Stephenson won the individual title finishing with a time of 25:52.5.

 

New Paltz claimed the team competition as well followed by Bard and St. Joseph's (L.I.). MCLA finished 10th.

 

The Trailblazers will be back in action on Sept. 23, when they'll compete in the Purple Valley Classic hosted by Williams College.

 

Men's Cross Country

MILTON, N.Y. —The MCLA men's cross country team finished 10th in the New Paltz Invitational held at the Hudson Valley Sports Dome. Host SUNY New Paltz took the team competition.

 

Senior Robbie Wiltsie was MCLA's top finisher with an 8k time 36:18.7.

 

St. Joseph's (L.I.) senior Matt Lopez took this year's individual title with a time of 27:30.5.

 

The Trailblazers will be back in action on Sept. 23 when they compete in the Purple Valley Classic hosted by Williams College.
