NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- After a three-year absence, the John Giorgi Summer Basketball League returned on Sunday night.
And it came back with a bang.
Frank Field (23 points, 12 rebounds) drove into the lane and hit a mid-range jumper with 6 seconds left to give Field and Field General Contracting a 65-63 win over Pizza House/Drury High School in the league's B Division opener at the Armory.
Drury got the ball over half court and had a shot from long range to win it at the buzzer, but it rimmed out.
Nick Waterman scored 17 and tied Field with 12 boards for Field and Field in a back-and-forth game where neither team led by more than a couple of possessions.
Nick Aitken added 17 in the win.
Sam Moorman led Drury with 16 points and nine rebounds. Donte Dillard scored 15. Myles Beuachamp and Jorge Bond each finished in double figures with 13 and 10, respectively.
In the nightcap on Sunday, Ramunto's defeated Big Body Beamers, 54-45, behind 17 points and nine rebounds from Tim Brazeau.
Brendan Bullett had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds in the win.
Amont David scored a game-high 24 to lead Big Body Beamers.
League play continues on Monday night at the Armory with two A Division games starting at 6:30.
