Three Hospitalized After Car Accident On Curran Highway Staff Reports , 04:56AM / Saturday, March 04, 2023 | |
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Police are investigating a three-car motor vehicle accident that took place near Hodges Cross Road that left three injured.
At approximately 10:41 a.m. Friday morning, North Adams dispatch received multiple calls reporting an accident in the southbound lane of the Curran Highway at the intersection commonly used as the southern entrance to Walmart.
Callers stated that at least one person was trapped in their car, and it's engine compartment was on fire.
Bystanders were able to help extract the person from the car. Police reported that their swift action prevented this individual from being severely burned and allowed first responders to provide immediate medical care upon their arrival.
Individuals from all three cars were transported to the hospital for treatment. Two were transported to Berkshire Medical Center (BMC) North while one was transported to BMC South in Pittsfield.
All three vehicles were towed away from the scene.
The accident is under investigation to determine what exactly happened. At this time cause, identities, and severity of injury are not available.
Multiple emergency units from the North Adams Police Department, North Adams Fire Department and Northern Berkshire EMS arrived shortly thereafter.
The Adams Police Department also responded to assist with traffic control as the southbound lane of Curran Memorial Highway needed to be shut down from the Hodges Cross Road intersection to the accident scene.
