Adams Burglary Suspect Dies

ADAMS, Mass. — Authorities say a suspect in a burglary last week on Spring Street died the day after the incident. 
 
Mark Bednarz, 56, died on Friday, Feb. 10, while in the hospital, according to the District Attorney's Office, which released the information on Tuesday.
 
Police had confirmed that there unspecified injuries in the daylight breaking and entering at a home on Spring Street. 
 
Adams Police and State Police had responded to the home of Thomas Granger, 73, at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 9. Granger told police he had come home to find Bednarz breaking into his residence and that a struggle had ensued. 
 
Bednarz was injured during the altercation. The DA's office said an autopsy will be performed and, on Wednesday, said further information would be forthcoming.
 
The incident is under investigation by the Adams Police Department and State Police Detective Unit.
 
A Mark Bednarz of the same age was sentenced to up to five years in prison in 2015 for the theft of copper wire from Iberdrola Renewables, which owns the wind farm in the town of Florida. He also had been in prison in the 1990s for charges including breaking and entering.
