NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Ashton Solomon recorded a hat trick and set up a goal Sunday to lead the Northern Berkshire Youth Hockey League 12U travel team to a 7-1 win over White Plains, N.Y., in the title game of the Spring Fling tournament.
The Black Bears finished the two-day tournament with a 3-0 record.
Northern Berkshire settled for just one banner in the first weekend of its home tourney.
In the 14U title game, Whitesboro, N.Y., held off a Black Bear comeback in the third period to earn a 3-2 win.
Next week, the NBYHL hosts 15 teams in three age groups – 8U, 10U and 18U – for three days of games from Friday through Sunday at the Peter W. Foote Vietnam Veterans Memorial Rink.

Solomon got the scoring going in the third minute when he took a pass from Rhyse Hoyte, brought the puck in from the blue line and beat White Plains keeper Vincent Mignardi, who finished with 19 saves.
It stayed a 1-0 game until Tyler Kruszyna scored a power play goal with 2 minutes, 43 seconds left on the clock.
White Plains cut that 2-0 margin in half, but Solomon scored on the backhand 11 seconds later to send the Black Bears to the first intermission with a 3-1 lead.
Emily Onorato scored with an assist from Solomon to start the second period, which saw Solomon and Kaleb Munson light the lamp to give Northern Berkshire a 6-1 lead going to the third.
Early in the third, Kruszyna won an offensive zone faceoff and fed Munson, who went top shelf with a blast from the point to cap the scoring.
Benjamin Harrington made 11 saves to earn the win in goal.
Whitesboro, N.Y., 14U 3, Northern Berkshire 2
The Black Bears started the scoring when Dallas Ritcher converted an Ethan Wilson assist for a power play goal in the first three minutes of the game.
But Whitesboro, which earned a 1-1 tie against Northern Berkshire on Saturday night, led by the end of the first period, taking the lead when Christopher Jennings cashed in a rebound with just three seconds left in the stanza.
Kyle McReynolds converted another rebound midway through the second to extend the Wolfpack’s lead to 2-1.
Whitesboro outshot Northern Berkshire, 21-14, through the first two periods.
But the Black Bears turned the tables in the third, outshooting the visitors, 11-3.
Just one chance got past keeper Mason Stanton.
That came with 3:18 on the clock when John Stack tipped in a blast from Gabriel Lescarbeau for a power-play goal.
Northern Berkshire had one more power play opportunity in the last two minutes, but Whitesboro’s defense held up.
William Braman made 21 saves in Northern Berkshire’s goal.
