Bird Scores 1,000th Career Point in MCLA Road Win

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Quentin Gittens scored a game-high 24 points and Hayden Bird added 21 points, including the 1,000th of his career, to lead the visiting MCLA men's basketball team to a 79-73 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over Bridgewater State University on Friday.
 
The Trailblazers improve to 10-12 on the season and 5-6 in the MASCAC, while the Bears fall to 4-18 overall and 2-9 in conference play.
 
The Bears (4-18, 2-9) and the Trailblazers (10-12, 5-6) will wrap up regular season play on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. from MCLA's Amsler Campus Center Gym.
 
Taconic graduate Gittens finished with a double-double as he also pulled down a game-best 11 rebounds (five offensive) to go along with five assists.
 
Drury graduate Bird added eight rebounds (five offensive), two steals and two blocked shots. His milestone basket, a three-pointer, came with 18:25 remaining in the second half.
 
Noah Yearsley checked in with 18 points on 6 of 10 shooting for the Trailblazers. Yearsley also went 5-for-6 from the free throw line and notched three rebounds, three steals and three blocks before fouling out early in the second half.
 
Gittens, Bird and Yearsley combined for 63 of MCLA's 79 points.
 
Women's Basketball
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's basketball team rolled to an 83-35 Senior Night victory over MCLA.
 
The game marked the regular season finale for both teams as the Bears improved to 18-7 on the season and 10-2 (second place) in the MASCAC while the Trailblazers fell to 1-22 overall and 1-11 (T-6th place) in conference play. The two teams will meet again in the opening round of the MASCAC Tournament on Tuesday night.
 
Senior guards Shannon Carney (Averill Park, N.Y.) and Olivia Pressley (Cobleskill, N.Y.) paced MCLA with ten points apiece.
