Winter Parking Ban Announcements
02:00PM / Friday, October 29, 2021
Print | Email

For many communities in Berkshire County, seasonal parking bans come into effect in November.

Parking bans are put into place to keep streets clear for plowing and emergency vehicle access during snow events.

This list will be updated as more municipalities announce their parking bans.

Adams: The Town will reinstate the traditional winter overnight on-street parking restriction from Dec. 1 through March 31.

Historically, the parking restriction ran from Nov. 15 to April 15. Last season, as a test protocol, the restriction was implemented only when a snow emergency was declared.

In an effort to accommodate residents without off street parking, the Town permits overnight, off-street parking at two municipal lots, Renfrew Lot and Kearns Lane Lot upon the purchase of a parking permit. The annual permits are available from the Treasurer/Collector’s Office at Town Hall for a $75 fee on a first come, first served basis and subject to terms and conditions. For more information, please call the Treasurer/Collector’s Office  (413) 743-8300 x177 or the Police Department at (413) 743-1212.

Cheshire: The overnight parking ban began Nov. 1. It will be in effect until April 1. If a winter storm is predicted, cars must be removed from the street.

Lenox: The all-night parking ban in Lenox will take effect on Nov. 1. Any vehicles parked on any town streets between 1 A.M. and 6 A.M. will be ticketed. In case of snowfall, the vehicles will be towed at the owners expense.

North Adams: The North Adams Winter Parking Ban will be effective as of Monday, Nov. 1, 2021, and will be in effect until Friday, April 15, 2022.

In accordance with City Ordinance, "no person shall park any vehicle, except in an emergency, on any street or highway for a period of time longer than one hour between the hours of 1:00 A.M. and 6:00 A.M. of any day."

On Nov. 1, North Adams Police Officers will begin issuing paper warnings to vehicles parked in violation of the parking ban, with enforcement and ticketing beginning after the first week of the ban.

During this grace period we encourage people explore their options in finding off-street parking as needed. In addition to the seasonal parking ban, parking on sidewalks is prohibited at all times year-round.

Dalton: The Dalton Police Department is reminding residents that beginning on November 15, 2021, there is no on street parking allowed between the hours of 1 a.m. and 6 a.m., per the Town of Dalton Traffic Code, Section 4-2.

Any violators of this Traffic Code will be issued a parking ticket. No vehicles are allowed to be parked on the side of any roads, including tree/street lines, during this time period.

Any vehicles found to be in violation of this Traffic Code may be towed at the owner’s expense if found to be impeding snow removal. The winter parking ban will be in effect until April 15, 2022.

Any persons with questions please contact the Dalton Police Department at 413 - 684 – 0300.

West Stockbridge:  The "Winter Parking Ban" is in effect from November 1, 2021 to April 30, 2022 between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. for all streets in West Stockbridge. Violations of this ban may result in a $25 fine for parking in prohibited areas, or a $50 fine for impeding snow removal. In addition, if the vehicle is impeding snow removal, it may be towed at the owner's expense.

The Municipal parking lot across from the Public Market and the parking area on Moscow Road, where the public bathrooms are, may be used for overnight off-street parking. However, vehicles in those lots must be moved by 8:00 a.m. to allow the Department of Public Works to manage snow and ice removal.

Anyone having questions about off street parking or the winter off-street parking ban can call Marc Portieri, Chief of Police at 413-232-8500.
