NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The Keene Swamp Bats scored three runs in the third inning and held on for a 5-2 win over the North Adams SteepleCats in a New England Collegiate Baseball League North Division showdown on Friday night.
North Adams saw a five-game winning streak come to an end and lost its regular season home finale.
It also missed a chance to pull into first place in its division.
Instead, Keene, N.H., ended the night 1-1/2 games ahead of the SteepleCats and Upper Valley Nighthawks, who are tied for second.
Noah Martinez hit a two-run home run in Keene's three-run rally in the third on Friday night.
The Swamp Bats added runs in the fourth and seventh to stretch their lead to 5-0.
North Adams scored twice in the eighth, cashing in on an error with a runner on third and a a sacrifice fly by Charles Middleton.
On Saturday, North Adams travels to New Hampshire for a double-header at Winnipesaukee. The Cats (21-15-2) close the regular season at Vermont on Saturday and Upper Valley on Monday.
