NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — A North Adams man is believed to have jumped from the Veterans Memorial Bridge to his death Sunday evening.
Police Chief Jason Wood said just before 6 p.m. Sunday a man identified as Maarten Pellegrini, age 40, parked his car on the Route 2 bridge.
"Sounds like he parked his car on the bridge ... right next to K-M Toyota," Wood said. "He got out and jumped off the bridge onto the railroad tracks."
Two kids playing near the tracks witnessed the fall and ran home to tell their parents. The police were then notified.
Wood said typically police would have tried to intervene and prevent the suicide, but they did not have the chance.
"I don't think anyone had a chance to do anything," he said.
Wood said the North Adams Police Department will continue the investigation.
"We don't have any reasoning behind it," he said. "There are no notes, no, motive. We are making our way through it, but we don't have a ton of information."
