NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Doris Christine Benedetti, 94, of 98 Brickyard Court died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, at Sweet Brook Care Centers in Williamstown.
Born in North Adams on Dec. 17, 1917, a daughter of Clarence and Lillie Bingham Bingham, she attended schools in North Adams and graduated n 1936 from Drury High School, where she was a member of the 1935 and 1936 championship basketball teams. She took business courses at the University of Massachusetts, Fitchburg State College and North Adams State College.
Mrs. Benedetti was employed for 20 years by the Department of Employment Security as a claims adjudicator until her retirement in the early 1980s. During World War II, she coordinated the purchase of vital supplies for the former Sprague Electric Co.
She was a life member of First Baptist Church. She was a bridge player at the Harper Center in Williamstown and the Women's Club in Pittsfield.
She married her next-door neighbor and high school sweetheart Henry "Andy" Benedetti on Sept. 16, 1939. He died July 1, 2003.
She leaves two sons, Craig B. Benedetti of California and Henry C. Benedetti of Georgia; three grandchildren, Lisa Wallace and Brett and Yanelli Benedetti, and two great-grandchildren, Payton and Savannah Wallace
She was predeceased by her sister, Elaine Stone Muldowney.
FUNERAL NOTICE — Funeral services for Mrs. Benedetti will take place Tuesday, Nov. 6, at 11 at First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery in Williamstown.
Calling hours will be Monday, Nov. 5, from 4 to 6 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Memorial donations are suggested for First Baptist Church through the funeral home.
