NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Josephine Ann Birch, 87, of 34 Harold Ave., Latham, N.Y., died Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011, at North Adams Commons. She was a former longtime resident of 72 Marietta St.
Born in North Adams on Sept. 2, 1924, daughter of Luigi and Antonia Remogilla Grande, she graduated from Drury High School. She moved to Latham in 1974.
Primarily a homemaker, Mrs. Birch had worked at the former Gale Shoe Co.
She was a communicant of the former St. Francis of Assisi Church.
Her husband, John W. Birch, whom she married on Aug. 7, 1948, died on Dec. 1, 1993.
She leaves a daughter, Jo-Ann Bernardi of North Adams; two sons, Jeffrey J. Birch of Beachwood, N.J., and John W. Birch Jr. of Petersburg, N.Y.; a brother, Salvatore "Sam" Grande of North Adams; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
One sister and five brothers predeceased her, Letizia Perra and Louis, Anthony, Michael, Joseph and John Grande.
FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mrs. Birch will be Saturday, Nov. 19, at 8:15 a.m. from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Friday, Nov. 18, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Multiple Sclerosis Society in care of the funeral home.
