NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Wilfred N. Shartrand, 86, of 65 Meadow St. died Monday, July 4, 2011, at North Adams Regional Hospital.

Born in North Adams on Tuesday, July 28, 1924, son of Edward and Ida Scarbo Shartrand, he attended North Adams schools.

An Army veteran of World War II, he served in Europe.

Mr. Shartrand was employed for many years as a foreman at the former General Cable Co. in Williamstown.

He was a communicant of the former Notre dame du Sacre Coeur Church.

His wife, the former Mary Bassett, died on Aug. 10, 2000.

He leaves a daughter, Ann Shartrand of North Adams; a brother, Edward Shartrand of Pompano Beach, Fla.; a sister, Antoinette Whitmore of North Adams, and nieces and nephews.

His sister Rita Czubryt and brothers George and Henry Shartrand predeceased him.

FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mr. Shartrand will be Friday, July 8, at 10:15 a.m. from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.

There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in care of the funeral home.
