Donald C. Blair, 70

January 06, 2011

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Donald C. Blair, 70, of Mohawk Trail died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011, at Williamstown Commons.

Born near Clarksburg, W.V., in 1939, son of Alexander and Arvilla Blair, his family moved to Lawrenceville,
Ill., where he was raised. He graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 1961 with a bachelor of science degree in English. He moved to North Adams in 1988.

Mr. Blair taught high school and resided for many years in Melbourne, Fla.

He described moving to North Adams as "When I got here, it was like coming home." He saw the world through a poet's eyes and grew to love the Berkshires. In 2008, he published "Berkshire Rhapsody," a volume of poems celebrating the magic he found in the hills and streams. His final collection of poems, "Waiting for the Restless Earth" is forthcoming. Rest in peace. Safe passage.

The last words are his:
Life may be a terminal illness, but its purpose still,
Is not its end, but the journey, the times
and the changes, the pain and the love.

FUNERAL NOTICE — Services for Mr. Blair will be private. Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, is in charge of arrangements.

This was my uncle Don. We lost contact with him back in the 80's though my mother never stopped looking. Rest in Peace Uncle Don.
