NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Rita Louise Girardi, 88, of 391 Walnut St. died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009, at North Adams Commons.
Born in North Adams on Sept. 7, 1921, daughter of Louis and Julia Ercoliani Farinon, she attended North Adams schools.
Mrs. Girardi was employed by the former Sprague Electric Co. until her retirement. Before that, she worked at the former Gale Shoe Co.
She was a communicant of the former St. Anthony of Padua Church. She enjoyed bingo and crossword puzzles.
Her husband, Joseph J. Girardi, former North Adams public works commissioner, whom she married Sept. 6, 1939, died on Oct. 17, 1992.
She leaves two daughters, Sandra Jean Petro and her husband, Thomas, of Auburn, Calif., and Barbara M. Gaffey and her husband, John, of Clarksburg; a son, Joseph L. Girardi and his wife, Carolyn, of Lancaster, N.Y.; two brothers, Raymond J. Farinon of North Adams and Orlando Farinon of Texas; 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her siblings Adeline "Mamie" Lewis and Rinaldo, Edward, Francis, Lindbergh and Ernest Farinon.
FUNERAL NOTICE — A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mrs. Girardi will be celebrated Monday Dec. 28, at 11 from St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
A calling hour will be held Monday, Dec. 28, from 9:30 until 10:30 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
