NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Norman Phillips Beer, 90, of 38741 County Road, Zephyrhills, Fla., a native of North Adams, died Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009, at Gulfside Regional Hospice in Dade City, Fla.
Born April 29, 1919, son of Harry and Estelle Phillips Beer, he attended North Adams schools.
Mr. Beer was a self-employed carpenter, contractor and mason, working for many area contractors. During the Great Depression, he worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps.
He enjoyed playing the guitar.
He and his wife, the former Regina Tatro, were married on March 14, 1942.
Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, David N. Beer of Schenectady, N.Y., Thomas Beer of Adams and Ralph Beer of Amherst; three sisters, Dorothy Bosley and Marion Beer, both of North Adams and Nancy Tower of Adams; a brother, Robert Beer of Drury; 11 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
A son, William Beer died in 1966; his brother Ralph Beer and sister Virginia Thompson are deceased.
FUNERAL NOTICE — A memorial service for Mr. Beer will be held Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 11 from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be Tuesday from 9 to 11. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in care of the funeral home.
