NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Edward Maurice Shartrand III, 59, of 18 Parker St. died Friday, Dec. 12, 2008, at North Adams Regional Hospital.

Born in North Adams on March 28, 1949, son of Edward M. Shartrand Jr. and the late Frances Cerminara Shartrand, he attended city schools and graduated from Drury High School with the class of 1967. He also attended the former North Adams State College and Berkshire Community College.

Mr. Shartrand was employed for 25 years by the former General Electric Co. in Pittsfield.

He was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church. He enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and playing golf. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

He and his wife, the former Nancy Galli, were married on Jan. 4, 1969.

Besides his father of Deerfield Beach, Fla., and his wife, he leaves a daughter, Angela Shartrand and her husband, Scott Andrew, of Florence; a brother, Paul Shartrand of Deerfield Beach, two grandchildren, Noah Andrew and Naomi Andrew of Florence, and nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brothers John Shartrand and Joseph Shartrand.

FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Edward Shartrand will be conducted Tuesday, Dec. 16, at 8:15 a.m. from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 at St. Anthony's Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Monday from 4 to 7.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society, the Eleanor Sonsini Animal Shelter or the charity of the donor's choice in care of the funeral home.
