Mary B. Grillone, 84

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Mary B. Grillone, 84, of 48 Apache Drive died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, at home.

Born in North Adams on Oct. 26, 1923, daughter of Anthony and Lena Scavo Lopreta, she attended Brayton Elementary and Drury High schools.

Mrs. Grillone was employed by the former J.C. Penney Store for 30 years, retiring in 1987. In her younger years, she worked at the former Mohawk Chief Market on Eagle Street and at the former W.T. Grant Store.

She was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church and a former member of its Rosary Sodality. She was a volunteer at North Adams Regional Hospital and enjoyed reading. Mrs. Grillone was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

She and her husband, Rocco D. Grillone, were married Aug. 2, 1947, in St. Anthony's Church.

Besides her husband, she leaves a daughter, MaryJane Malone and her husband, William, of Williamstown; a son, the Rev. Francis A. Grillone and his wife, Valerie, of Reidsville, N.C.; a sister, Patricia Pedulla of Agawam; seven grandchildren, Courtney Malone Young of Beverly, Hunter Grillone of Charlestown, N.H., Bryan Grillone of Rossville, Ga., Adam, Tamara and Owen Grillone of Reidsville, N.C., and Katie Grillone Grotschel of Ruffin, N.C.; three great-grandchildren, Makenna Grillone, and Madison and Liberty Grotschel, and nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her sister, Anna J. Hansen, and her brothers Anthony Lopreta and Francis Lopreta, who was killed in the Korean War.

FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mrs. Grillone will be conducted Wednesday at 10 a.m. from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapel, 521 West Main St., North Adams, by her son, the Rev. Francis A. Grillone.

Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 p.m.
