Edward Henry Landry Sr.

Edward Henry Landry Sr., 89, of 376 Eagle St. died Tuesday at North Adams Regional Hospital.

Born in North Adams on Sept. 25, 1917, son of Wilfred and Exilia Desjarlais Landry, he attended local schools and, later, Emard Seminary in New York state.

A Navy veteran of World War II, he served with the Seabees in the South Pacific.

Mr. Landry was employed in the ordnance department of General Electric Co. for more than 25 years, retiring in 1982. Before that, he worked for the former Hoosac Cotton Mills.

He was a communicant of St. Francis' Church and a member of the Northern Berkshire Retired Men's Club and Dr. George L. Curran Post 996 VFW in North Adams.

He and his wife, the former Veronica Fortini, were married April 26, 1941, at St. Anthony's Church.

Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Edward H. "Ted" Landry Jr. of Lyndonville, Vt., David A. Landry of Pelham, N.H., and Peter R. Landry of Stamford; six daughters, Linda A. Landry, Doris J. Orell and Lisa D. Milanesi, all of North Adams, Paula M. Chalifoux of Buffalo, N.Y., Mary E. Bell of Bernardston and Marilyn J. Beaudreau of Ayer; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Edward H. Landry Sr., who died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2007, will be Saturday at 10:15 a.m. at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapel, 521 W. Main St., North Adams, with a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Francis' Church.

Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In appreciation of the compassionate care provided by the North Adams Regional Hospital nursing staff, the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to North Adams Regional Hospital to support the nursing needs.

He leaves three daughters-in-law, Linda (Ted), Martha (David) and Susan Landry (Peter); five sons-in-law, Craig Chalifoux, Richard Orell, Peter Bell, David Beaudreau and Peter Milanesi; 14 grandchildren, Todd, Adam, Phillip, Tyler, Alicia and Angela Landry, Trisha Gray, Joseph Chalifoux, Nathan and Yvonne Beaudreau, Christopher and Emily Bell, and Christopher and Olivia Milanesi; three great-grandchildren, Pravan and Priyasha Landry, and Addison Gray; and nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Wilfred Landry Jr., and by two sisters, Alvina Moreau and Rosamond Gilbert.
