NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Cecile "Ceil" Yarter, 92, of 142 Liberty St., died Monday afternoon, Feb. 26, 2007, at North Adams Regional Hospital.
Born in North Adams on July 28, 1914, daughter of Hormisdas and Elmire Tetreault Surprenant, she attended schools in North Adams, including the former Notre Dame Parochial School, and completed the Commercial Course there.
Mrs. Yarter was employed by Betti Oil Co. until Nov. 24, 1974, when the company was sold. She then worked at the Climax Candy Co., from which she retired as secretary and bookkeeper on April 26, 1980. Her working career had spanned 48 years.
She was a communicant of St. Francis Church and a former member of its rosary society.
She was a member of the Germania Lodge in Adams and was also a member of the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Turn Verein in Adams and participated in its bowling league.
Her husband, Harry O. Yarter, whom she married on Oct. 5, 1935, in Notre Dame Church, died Jan. 1, 1968.
She leaves a nephew, John Paul Heath of Holyoke; three grandnieces, Cynthia LaPlante of Adams, Linda Ethier of Clarksburg and Kathy Holland of Cheshire; a great-grandniece, Amber LaFontaine of North Adams; and a great-great-grandniece, Skylar Baker.
Two sisters are deceased, Alida Heath and Jeannette Konopka.
FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mrs. Yarter will be held Saturday, March 3 at 8:15 a.m. from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS CENTRAL CHAPELS, 74 Marshall St., North Adams followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church. Burial in Southview Cemetery.
Calling hours at the funeral home are Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. Donations to the Beaven Kelly Home in care of the funeral home.
