Gisela Lainer

Gisela Lainer, 76, of 227 Franklin Court died Tuesday at the Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.

Born in Bielefeld, Germany, on March 22, 1930, daughter of Otto and Wilhelmine Jurgens Wehmeyer, she attended schools in Germany and graduated from nursing school.

She moved with her family to the United States in 1952, settling in Worcester, where she was employed as a cashier at a local movie house for a short time.

She later moved to Springfield and then lived in Longmeadow for many years until moving to Berkshire County in 1993.

Mrs. Lainer was primarily a homemaker.

She enjoyed cooking, sewing, knitting and crocheting and spending time with her family.

Her husband, Sydney Lainer, whom she married in 1951 in Germany, died Feb. 9, 1972.

She leaves a daughter, Wendy Bongiovanni of Pownal, Vt.; a son, Dr. Morris Lainer of Easthampton; a sister, Erika Gabler, and a brother, Otto Wehmeyer, both of Germany; and two grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- A graveside service for Gisela Wehmeyer Lainer, who died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006, will be held Monday, Dec. 18, at 11 at Sinai Temple Memorial Park, 32 Cottage St. Springfield.

There are no calling hours. Memorial Contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice in care of FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St., North Adams, MA 01247, which is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include a son-in-law, Steven; a daughter-in-law, Teresa Serafin; and two grandchildren, Kimberly and Brian Bongiovanni. She was predeceased by her stepmother, Ella Wehmeyer.
