Maude I. "Modesta" Crews

Maude I. "Modesta" Crews, 94, of 258 Kemp Ave. died Saturday at North Adams Regional Hospital.

Born in North Adams on Oct. 14, 1911, daughter of Ettore and Maria Maoli Mariani, she was educated in local schools.

Mrs. Crews was employed for many years by the former Sprague Electric Co. in the production departments, retiring in 1974.

She was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church and a member of the Sprague Quarter Century and Retirees clubs.

She and her husband, James Edward Crews Sr., were married April 7, 1934, by the Rev. Nicola Mongiello, then pastor of St. Anthony's Church. Mr. Crews died Oct. 29, 1994.

She leaves three daughters, Margaret A. Duguay of North Adams, with whom she resided, Janet Lanoue of North Adams and Madelyn C. Foster of Pittsfield; a son, James E. Crews Jr. of North Adams; a sister, Jane Paradise of Williamstown; four grandchildren, and also three greatgrandchildren. Another daughter, Patricia Crews, died in infancy.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Maude I. Crews, who died Saturday, June 24, 2006, will be tomorrow, June 27, at 10:30 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, CENTRAL CHAPEL, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at St Anthony's Church, 64 Marshall St., North Adams.

Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Calling hours at the funeral home will be tomorrow, June 27, from 8:30 until the time of the funeral. Any donations in her memory are suggested for the donor's choice through the funeral home, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247.

She also leaves four grandchildren, Kathleen Duguay of East Stroudsburg, Pa., Jason Crews of Adams, Karen Schaffrick of Windsor and Richard Lanoue of North Adams; three great-grandchildren, Allison, Lauren and Evan Crews, and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Ralph and Alfred Mariani.
