Lewis H. Canedy, 89

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Lewis Homer "Bud" Canedy, 89, of Bickford Extension Avon, Conn., formerly of North Adams, died Sunday morning, May 7, 2006, at Avon Health Center in Avon.

Born in North Adams on Oct. 2, 1916, son of Charles R. and Edith Shippee Canedy, he attended schools in North Adams and graduated from Drury High School. He also graduated from Middlebury (Vt.) College.

A Navy veteran of World War II, he served as a lieutenant in the Pacific theater from Oct. 12, 1942, until his honorable discharge on Dec. 16, 1945.

Mr. Canedy and his wife, the former Jean Hamer Hardy, were the proprietors of the Golden Eagle Gift and Antique Shop at the Hairpin Turn on the Mohawk Trail for many years. He also was a math teacher at McCann Technical School.

He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in North Adams. After his retirement, he lived in Yarmouthport and later in Hadley, and moved to Avon in March 2006.

He and his wife were married on May 5, 1945, in St. John's Church.

Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Ann Parisien of Hadley and Susan Canedy of Farmington, Conn.; a son, Scott H. Heekin-Canedy of Stamford, Conn., and five grandchildren, William A. Parisien III, Adam D. Parisien, Kate Lavo, Jameson G. Lavo and Siobhan S. Heekin-Canedy, and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Donald Canedy and Charles Canedy.

FUNERAL NOTICE — A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mr. Canedy will be held Saturday, May 20, at 10 a.m. at St. John's Church in North Adams, with the Rev. Karen Hardy, his niece, as the celebrant. Burial with veteran's honors will follow in the family lot in Southview Cemetery.

There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice in care of FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS CENTRAL CHAPELS, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247, which is in charge of arrangements.
