Leslie A. Kent, 94, of 37 Lois St. died yesterday morning at North Adams Regional Hospital.
He was the grandfather of former acting Gov. Jane M. Swift.
Born in Lee on Feb. 20, 1911, son of Albert and Emma Washburn Kent, he came to North Adams at a young age and attended schools here.
He served in the Army from 1929 until his honorable discharge June 25, 1930, and was stationed at the Plattsburg (N.Y.) barracks. He also served in the Civilian Conservation Corps at Camp Monroe in 1934.
Mr. Kent was employed by the former Sprague Electric Co. from 1934 until his retirement in 1976 as a supervisor.
An avid outdoorsman, he was a hunter and fisherman.
He was a member of the Greylock Archery, the Taconic Golf and North Adams Country clubs.
He enjoyed spending summers on Lake Dunsmore in East Middlebury, Vt.
His wife, the former Alma A. Bertoldi, whom he married July 31, 1937, in St. Anthony's Church, died March 19, 2001.
Besides his granddaughter, he leaves a daughter, Jean M. Swift of North Adams; three other grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Leslie A. Kent, who died May 4, 2005, will take place Friday at 9:15 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Raphael's Church, Williamstown.
Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Thursday from 4 to 6. Memorial donations are suggested for the St. Patrick's Food Pantry through the funeral home.
Survivors include a son-in-law, John M. Swift Sr.; four grandchildren, John M. Swift Jr. and his wife, Kimberly, of Arlington, Jane M. Swift and her husband, Charles Hunt, of Williamstown, Johanna M. Swift and her husband, Kyle Hart, of Belmont, and Robert Swift and his wife, Katja, of Randolph, Vt.; and eight great-grandchildren, Samuel and Natalie Swift of Arlington, Elizabeth, Lauren and Sarah Hunt of Williamstown, Seneca and Rowan Hart of Belmont, and Amber Swift of Randolph.
Among their many activities, he and his wife enjoyed their grandchildren and spent many summers on Lake Dunsmore in East Middlebury, Vt.
