James Lockwood

James W. Lockwood, 91, of 16 Barth St. died yesterday at Willowood Health Care Center of North Adams following a short illness.

Born in Malden on March 9, 1910, son of Charles and Sarah Ann Oldham Lockwood, he moved with his family at age 5 to North Adams and attended schools there.

He was first employed at the former Greylock Mills in North Adams and then became the manager of the former Atlantic Gas Service. He was also employed at the Spruces Mobile Home Park in Williamstown as the building and grounds manager for 20 years. He was last employed in the buildings and grounds department at the former North Adams State College, retiring in 1985.

Mr. Lockwood was one of the founders of the former Dutch Hill Ski Area in Heartwellville, Vt.

His wife, the former Jeanette Rogerson, died in 1981.

He leaves a daughter, Ann L. Lockwood of North Adams, three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Services will take place Friday at 11 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, with David Anderson, director of Christian education at First Baptist Church of North Adams, officiating. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, are Friday from 10 to 11. Memorial donations are suggested for the North Adams Ambulance Service through the funeral home.
