Lucy Bassi

Lucy Bassi, 70, formerly of 611 State Road, died Sunday evening at Williamstown Commons.

Born in North Adams on April 16, 1934, daughter of Giacomo and Ermelinda Riccitti Cozzaglio, she graduated from Drury High School in 1951 and from the former St. Luke's School of Nursing in Pittsfield in 1954. She received her licensed nursing home administrator certification in 1973.

She had resided in Tortola, British Virgin Islands, from 1989 to 1992.

A registered nurse, Mrs. Bassi was administrator of the former Adams Nursing Homes and its successor, Willowood, in Adams, North Adams and Williamstown, from 1961 until retiring in 1989. Prior to that, she was employed by North Adams Regional Hospital for four years, then as a private duty nurse.

She was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church and a member of its Rosary Sodality.

She was a member of the Jollee Circle, the Red Hat Society and the Literacy Volunteers, and volunteered for the Red Cross.

Her husband, Edward Bassi, whom she married Aug. 28, 1954, died Oct. 1, 1985.

She leaves two sons, Jonathon Bassi of Kinnelon, N.J. and Edward Bassi of Cheshire; a daughter, Lisa Bassi of North Adams; two grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Lucy Bassi, who died Aug. 15, 2004, will be Wednesday, Aug. 18, at 8 a.m. fromTROTTIER PRINGLE FUNERAL HOME, 6 Summer St., Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 9 in St. Anthony's Church, North Adams, by the Rev. Albert Dagnoli, SSCC.

Burial will follow in Cheshire Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Tuesday from 4:30 to 8. Donations in her memory can be made to the Edward and Lucy Bassi Memorial Fund through the funeral home.

Survivors include her grandchildren, Jordon Camille Bassi and Anthony Edward Bassi; step-grandchildren, Damian McCartney and Billy McCartney; daughters-in-law, Roberta Gregory and Toniann Bassi, and son-in-law, Bill McCartney.
