Doris Horbal

Doris Veronica Horbal, 97, of 458 East Main St. died Tuesday at Willowood of North Adams Health Care Center.

Born in Bristol, Conn., on Oct. 7, 1903, daughter of James Edward and Mary Ellen McKinnie Doyle, she attended schools there, and had resided in Hartford, Conn., for several years before moving to North Adams in 1933.

A homemaker, Mrs. Horbal was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church and TOPS. She was also a member of the former Houghton Community Round Table.

Her husband, Peter Alexander Horbal, whom she married May 1, 1932, died Nov. 19, 1973.

She leaves three sons, Alan D. Horbal of North Adams, with whom she resided, Paul J. Horbal of Stuart, Fla., and Peter D. Horbal of Cheshire; a sister, Ruth J. Stone of Forrestville, Conn.; five grandchildren, and two great-granddaughters. She was predeceased by a son, James D. Horbal, who died July 13, 1957.

The funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at AUGE-SAN SOUCIE-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 46 North Church St., North Adams. The Rev. Donald G. Place, rector of St. John's Episcopal Church, North Adams, will officiate. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Calling hours are Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children or to any charity of the donor's choice through the funeral home. She leaves five grandchildren, Diane Horbal, Darlene Doughty, Dawn Horbal, Lisa Horbal and James Horbal, and two great-granddaughters, Danielle Horbal and Taylor Kulas.
